Subject: [juniorultimate] Interested in playing for GB2 ?
Date: Thu, 17 May 2007 23:38:08 +0100
Looks like we have finally got an invite to send a second string junior open
team to Latvia to compete against some Eastern European teams. Not quite the
same location as last year, but still flying into the same airport. Tickets
are very cheap at the moment, but we only get one chance to get them cheap,
and that is to block book them together. We don't have the exact dates yet,
but expect final confirmation within the next day or two. Best guess is July
4th or 5th to July 8th or 9th. Only a 3 day tournament, flying out a day
early and a day late. Once we have that, we want to book all flights within
the week. After that, prices will rocket. Currently flights are looking like
£70 return. We really should be budgeting for the whole 5 days costing the
best part of £200. Some change from that would be cool, but I don't want to
mis-lead anyone as it may cost that much.
So, the tournament is really about the junior girls division, and thanks to
a lot of hard work from the likes of James and Gemma, GB are entering a
girls team for the first time ever. There will be 6 teams in that division,
but they would also like a junior open division and they love the spirit
that GB squads bring. The squad is going to be coached by Frank Legge
(coached GB2 in Sweden two years ago) but there will other adults there to
help with the squad.
If you think you are of a suitable standard to be considered, then send an
email to myself and Frank explaining who you are, what GB trials you
attended this year, what teams you normally play for, how long you've been
playing, what position you prefer to play, and any GB squads you've played
for in the past. In short, you really need to be thinking you are good
enough (and young enough) to play for GB Juniors in Vancouver next summer
once all those Hippies and Mowers are finally too old and free up some
places on the squad for you! This invite is particularly aimed at anyone who
has played GB U17s and is now too old, and anyone that went to GB Junior
trials but was cut.
Anyone selected will not be getting the official GB kit as worn by all the
Southampton squads though as partly there is no time to order it, and partly
because some people feels it lessens their achievement by making the 'real'
GB squads. Any ideas for cheap and quick kit should be sent to Frank. Feel
free to join the GB2 group on Facebook. Just search for GB2 and look for the
photo of Timmy's acceptance speech in Sweden. Surely something to aspire to.
You must be a position to pay at least £150 within a few days if you want
any chance of cheap flights. No one must book flights individually or they
will scupper everyone else. We must have the money in and book as a group.
Please forward this to suitable people if you think they are not on this
email group.
