14 teams competed in this year's U17s indoor championships. Great games all
weekend with excellent spirit. The top 3 places were extremely closely
contested with Airbadgers 1 (last year's champions) just losing out to NC
Hammer in the pool stages setting up the more difficult semi final against
Ocelots 1. Losing their captain at 3-5 to a suspected broken finger didn't
help and they narrowly lost. In the other semi, Artic lost out to NC Hammer.
And so to the final where Ocelots started in great form playing some very
safe offence. 4 mistakes from NC Hammer and they found themselves 5-0 down.
They found their game after that and traded till the final whistle with some
great athletic plays, but really had no answer to the Sam Green/Michael
Connor partnership. Final score was Ocelots 12, NC Hammer 7.
Special mention to Airbadgers who managed to field 4 teams including 12 year
7s playing. Ocelots 2 won the Plate (9th place), Deva ran away with the
Spirit award, and Sam Green won MVP. In the special challenge matches,
Airbadgers beat Ocelots/Artic in the U13s match 8-5; and Ocelot girls lost
to the Deva/Catch Those/Artic combo team 4-6. Johanna took the trophy even
though she switched teams at half time and only conceded one point all game.
With 60 juniors signing up to try out for GB U17s, expect quite a strong
team to be at tour 0 as they compete with each other for a place in
Southampton.
