I would agree that 2m is a bit too high for the younger/shorter
players. As you say, this could be ammended, to 1.5m for example.
When playing in our local hall we used a line that was already drawn
on the wall at about 1.7m and this did not cause any problems with
keeping the disc below the level.
Another good comment regarding confidence of beginners. I agree that
throwing the pull hard at them is not what should be done, hopefully
spirit would be kept in mind and the person throwing the pull would
not do this. The fact that the pull can be dropped, however, should
help those beginners lacking if confidence to go for the disc
without the risk of a turnover if they drop it.
One part of the new rules that I do like, and I think should be
used, is that regarding time between points. With only 15 min games
a lot of the game can be lost standing around between points, the
tighter time limits should help combat this.
I have never played a competitive game under the new rules, but
based on experience in training and players who have used them, I
think they should be used if possible, with a few amendments to suit
junior ultimate. Plus they will be used at all other UKUA indoor
events and possibly university events next year so it would be good
to learn them early.
