CW

This is somewhat amazing, but this email just came through last night.

If you and Linda are in the Reno, there are places to shoot all year round. on the 6th there is a shoot in Fernley and if here on the 13th there is a shoot at Roop. both are located about 30 miles or less from Reno. Since I go to both places, I can arrange to pick you up.

Even if you can not make on of the matches, Sue and I, if the two of you are available, would enjoy you company for a short evening at dinner or lunch. We would enjoy hearing how the two of you are progressing through your new retirement.

let me know what your schedule is.

again, sorry about being so late in answering this email. it really did just come through last night.

Hey CW

good to hear from you. was just in checking out to camping world to see if they sell heat tape for RV's. I was down to Bridgeport CA (65 miles south of Minden) last weekend and it got down to '1'  yes '1'  degree saturday night. days were in the high 60's/low 70's. I was talking to K. George today and told him that I did fairly well. I placed 2nd overall. one of the locals (Reno) out matched me. he is fast, accurate and 20 years my junior.

I looked up the clubs you mentioned and it looks like you hold your own. your scores are great - congratulations!! as with you, none of the local clubs post their stages. they are read and you shoot. after awhile it gets easy to quickly memorize them.

as do you, I also have a few local clubs (High Plains Drifters/Fernley NV, Roop County Shooters/Sparks NV (range is about 30 miles north of Reno) Silver State Shootist/Carson City adn the Bridgeport Vigilanties/Bridgeport CA) which I have the privledge of being able to shoot. three are an 1.25 - 1.5 hours drive from my place. one of them is a short 35 minutes. there is something going on 3 weekends of each month. If anyone is interested in scores, check out http://nevadacas.com/ and check the scores and pictures for the northern nevada clubs. there are also some more pictures of all the clubs under this URL:  http://nevadacas.com/katescorner.htm .

just like the Juneau weather, the temperture here is slowily going south. I used to think it got cold in SE Alaska. when the wind blows across the desert, whether the sun is out or not, holy crap it gets darn right cold. we are tough cuses though, no stinkin' heaters for us!!!! we are real cowboys!!

you asked how my thumb is doing. surgury went well last june. I now have a slight divit in my left thumb which is barely noticeable. I have found out when my hand gets fatigued, most of the thumb gets numb. the cancer I have is very rare and still floats around in me. the last set of blood work I had done still indicated there is cancer in me somewhere. I have had regular CT scans and nuclear CT scans. nothing shows up in the scans, just in the blood work. to date the State of AK and Blue Cross/Blue Shield have spent a little over $41K on me. the oncologist and I are on a first name basis.I constantly thank the Lord for health insurance.  someday it may strike again. until that day (and even after that day), each day that the good Lord allows my to wake up is always the best day of my life.

now must get back to work. still have some work to do on the RV before the weekend. the Silver State Shootists is hosting a buffalo shoot. targets are posted at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards. by the way Gold Miner Posse guys, I believe the range also goes to 400 yards. you also could be doing long range shoots.

now 'Happy Trails to you until we meet again'

JJ I have been very fortunate to find a couple of clubs that are not too far.  One is in Fairview, KY, about 30 miles away.  I have also been sharing rides with a couple of cowboys from the Fairview club up to Bowling Green. KY (about 2 hrs each way).  Each place runs 5 stages without moving steel.  The Fairview is on a new range (one of the members loaned them 140 acres) this year and is just getting some props set up.  They make some improvement each month.  They have designated floks that set up each stage each month.  No place here that I have shot passes out the stages to each shooter so ya have to listen when they do the walk thru.  The Fairview club has a web site http://cowboyregulators.com/default.aspx I think that will get you there.  The Bowling Green shoot is at a range but they do not have an organized Cowboy club yet.  I have also shot with the Kentucky Regulators a couple of times but they are a 105 mile freeway drive each way.  They have a web site also I just don't have it at hand.  They also have some real dedicated shooters.  How is your thumb doing?  Best wishes, stay safe and shoot straight.  C-U, C.W.
Nobody has hot food either!!

OK CW - so's you have had the chance to shoot two matches against the new 'locals'.

Now - tell us how you matched against them.

JJ

PS - For the last couple of matches, we have had the exact same problem with the weather as you.

Sounds like you guys are keepin' the fun meter peaked.  Congrats to Chilly Chad & 5 Card on their shootin'.  Looks like Ole Buckskin better asked Mama fer sum lessons.  Did ya have a pistol reload on stage two?  The last two shoots I attended had both pistol & rifle reloads, but it was only 75 degrees, te-he,te-he.
Have fun and stay safe, C-U, C.W.

thugs, Bushwhack Bill and his gang of miscreants. As you set up for

Monthly Cowboy Action Shoot
Sunday, Oct 21, 2007

Howdy All,

We had a pretty decent turnout for the October shoot. Sunday dawned
pretty cool with a light breeze and overcast skies which held for
the whole match when the wet stuff started falling as we cleaned
up. That new double-element propane heater felt real nice in
between stages let me tell you. We had some fun stages courtesy of
Dead Shot, but we still had to give him some grief just to be
ornery. The original write-up for stage-1 had us fondling the "new
shooters". Fortunately, it was just a bunch of us old hands there!
Ol' Buckskin John while not able to shoot cuz his horse threw him
and his back out expressed glee that the Gun & Mercantile had
real "Loaded" firearms for sale. And consideration was given to
awarding Dead Shot some bonus points on stage-3 for not only
properly using the word "miscreant" but pronouncing it right too!
Congratulations to the Clean Shoot Pards (marked by "*")! Not an
easy thing to do when your hands are sliding towards numb! And,
finally, an especially big thanks to A Damn Shame for all those
tasty Barbecue Sloppy Joe's !!
