There is no question that Julie Foudy is one of the deepest thinking and
erudite athletes to ever play a team sport. To me, she is a female version
of Byron White or Bill Bradley--in fact, probably more of a pioneering force
than any other athlete short of a Jackie Robinson. She is forceful and
committed to her causes--witness her trip to Asia to make certain that child
labor was not in use to manufacture soccer equipment. It is always with
great pleasure that I listen to her give well-thought and interesting
answers to complex questions--a far cry from the normal "jock interviews"
that we have all come to know and loathe. Now that the Olympics have ended,
what does her future hold? Will politics play a part? If so, what
political office would she aspire to and what is the time frame? Does she
favor one political party over another? Has the 'political courtship' of
Julie Foudy already begun?
Thanks.
