night at the San Diego Sports Arena.

Philly was first on the scoreboard with a goal at 7:03 in the first
quarter by player-coach Don D'Ambra off an assist from Joel Shanker.
The Sockers responded in the second quarter at 9:59 when Mark Ughy
hit an unassisted goal, tying the game. Shanker scored a goal of his
own off a Ze Roberto assist at 14:21, giving Philadelphia a 2-1 lead
at the half. Mauricio Alegre attempted to tie the game seconds before
the end of the first half, when he buried a shot, but the goal was
called back with time expiring.
The second half got off to a quick start. Philly scored first at 6:31
in the quarter with midfielder Kevin Sloan finding the back of the
net off an assist by Goran Vasic. Three minutes later it was Pat
Morris sneaking one by Sockers goalkeeperVictor Noguiera with an
assist by Matt Brooks.
It was Sloan again in the fourth, scoring the final goal for
Philadelphia at 10:01. Ughy scored his second goal at 12:22,
unassisted, but it wasn't enough dropping the Sockers to a 0-1

The Sockers will return to the Sports Arena next Saturday, 11
October, when they take on the Milwaukee Wave at 7 p.m. This game
will be telecast live on 4-SanDiego, and broadcast on local radio by
ESPN 800 in English, and Radio Unica in Spanish. That night has also
been selected as ball night, with the first 5,000 fans receiving a
free regulation size 5 soccer ball.
