It's not even an athletic field. It's just a park on Lamartine st. half a block from the Stony Brook station (which is on the corner of Lamartine and Boylston sts. in JP). It's part of the park system that runs above the Orange line tracks known as the southwest corridor. See ya...

Hey,
Sorry for the late response. The "casual" game moved to a field about a block from Stony Brook station on the Orange line. It now starts around 4ish.
Again, it is extremely casual. But fun...

Thanks,

The
British are coming to Boston, for Ultimate Frisbee!
This Thursday and Friday, the Boston
Ultimate Disc Alliance
(BUDA) presents
the British National Mixed and Men's teams, as they take on the best
squads from Boston in the 2008
Ultimate Showcase Series (USS), featuring some of the best Ultimate
Frisbee players in the world. On Thursday, June 26th
at Teddy Ebersol Field at 7:00 PM by the Esplanade, Great Britain
challenges 2-time US National Silver Medalist and 2006 World Bronze
Medalist "Slow White". On Friday, June 27th at Tufts
Bello Field at 7:30 PM, Great Britain's men's team squares up against
(or is it "circles up against" for frisbee sports?) top five
National team, Boston Ultimate. Detailed information is at
TheUltimateShowcase.com.
Full Press Release attached.
Hope to see you there.

On Friday in the press booth, local writer Stephen Tobey mentioned he was tired of covering tennis. His news agency tracks the number of readers for each article. To help him out, check out his recent articles on ultimate and if you'd like, forward to your teammates.
The update from the Metro is that we will likely get a T-Time blurb for Sunday's USS championships and they really want to do a full article on the
upcoming Great Britain games.
Cheers,

Hey,
It's the George R White Schoolboy stadium behind the
Franklin Park zoo. (just Mapquest it)
Anyway, I'm not sure how many people would be there
today because of the extreme heat. I think I'm gonna
skip it. As I've said before it is extremely casual
and low-key. Good luck...

Just thought I'd remind everyone of the state of JP pickup. We can't play at Downes field or at Daisy field because they are occupied most of the day. There is an empty field in Franklin Park that is available most of the day. Unfortunately, when I polled people about that possibility, I got very few responses. So at this point JP pickup is pretty much over (sigh...)
There is indeed a pickup "ultimate" game there at 2:30ish on Sundays next to the stadium, but it is extremely casual. I repeat: EXTREMELY casual. It's a non-competitive, mostly for beginners game (no stall count, very few cuts, very little defense, barely any boundaries) It's fun and they are very nice people but it's not for everyone. If you're looking for something more competitive you'd probably want the arlington game. Good luck...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 21th, 2008 HEADLINE: Elite-level Ultimate Frisbee comes to Bedford The Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance (BUDA) presents Game 1 of the 2008 Ultimate Showcase Series (USS), featuring some of the best Ultimate players in the world, on Wednesday May 21st, at 7:30 PM at Bedford High School. Detailed information is at TheUltimateShowcase.com along with the full USS 2008 schedule.
Vying to win the Mixed Division are teams Cambridge and Slow White, the US National silver medalist and World bronze medalist. Ultimate is one of the only sports in which men and women compete in mixed world championships. The Cambridge team is led by #88 Jim Parinella, who won seven National and three World Ultimate titles with local legendary men's team Death or Glory (aka: "DoG") and rising star #24 Peri Kurshan, from women's national semifinalist, "Brute Squad." Slow White is led by star throwers Chelsea Pawlus and Mike Miller, and star receiver Miles Montgomery-Butler. Expect them to feature an exciting long-throwing offense.
More than one million people play Ultimate in the United States. In Massachusetts, the number of high school programs has grown from five teams in 2003 to over sixty teams this year.
The Ultimate Showcase was developed so local fans can watch the sport played at the highest level. Admission to this event is free. A tax-deductible donation to BUDA to support the development of youth ultimate is suggested.
What is Ultimate? Ultimate is played by two seven-player teams on a 40 x 120 yard playing field. Teams advance a 175g disc (Frisbee) by passing from one player to another. While in possession of the disc, a player must stop running, but may pivot in any direction, and throw the disc to a teammate. A goal is scored when a player catches the disc in an opponent's end zone. Ultimate combines the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer, with the aerial passing skills of football.
Most importantly, Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. It is a self-officiated game, so players choose to conduct themselves with a high level of integrity called "Spirit of the Game." The concept of "Spirit of the Game" is written into the rules and is practiced at the highest levels of the sport – from local league play to the World Championships. "Spirit of the Game" is a refreshing alternative to watching mistakes by referees determine who wins NBA and World Cup championships. The Sport of Ultimate Frisbee is Growing Rapidly:
-The sport is booming, with young players leading the growth. More than 500 college club teams now compete in the USA. -Young players are attracted to this sport because everyone on the field is a potential quarterback and receiver. They love the constant action, diving catches and long, high arcing throws. Every high level game has plenty of ESPN highlight-clip caliber plays. Contacts for The Ultimate Showcase: Mark Goodman, 617-504-1473 MarkGoodman@... Erik Sebesta , 617-577-7131 Erik@...
Because the Ultimate Showcase Series (USS) is designed to be fan-friendly, we won't play games in significant rain, as projected for this evening.
Would you know of a site which would be interested in hosting the make-up USS game?
We are still looking for nice lit fields with stands. Possible game dates include: May 14, 16, 28, 30th and June 4, 6, 11 or 18th. Details provided in our letter to Athletic Directors... http://ihuck.com/tiki-index.php?page=LetterToADs

legendary men's team Death
or Glory (aka: "DoG") and rising star #24
Peri Kurshan, from women's national semifinalist, "Brute Squad."
Boston is led by skilled throwers #26 Owen Westbrook and #22 Rana Suh
along with #12 Adam Sigelman, who had several crowd-pleasing layout
blocks in last summer's championship.
More than one
million people play Ultimate in the United States. In Massachusetts,
the number of high school programs has grown from five teams in 2003
to over sixty teams this year.
The Ultimate Showcase was developed so local fans
can watch the sport played at the highest level. Admission to this
event is free. A tax-deductible donation to BUDA to support the
development of youth ultimate is suggested.
What is
Ultimate?
Ultimate is played by two seven-player teams on a
40 x 120 yard playing field. Teams advance a
175g disc (Frisbee) by passing from one player to
another. While in possession of the disc, a player
must stop running, but may pivot in any direction,
and throw the disc to a teammate. A goal is scored when a player
catches the disc in an opponent's end zone. Ultimate combines the
non-stop movement
and athletic endurance of soccer, with the aerial
passing skills of football.
Most importantly, Ultimate stresses sportsmanship
and fair play. It is a self-officiated game, so players choose to
conduct themselves with a high level of integrity called "Spirit
of the Game." The concept of "Spirit of the
Game" is written into the rules and is practiced at the highest
levels of the sport – from local league play to the World
Championships. "Spirit of the Game" is a refreshing alternative
to watching mistakes by referees determine who wins NBA and World Cup
championships.
The Sport of
Ultimate Frisbee is Growing Rapidly:
The
sport is booming, with young players leading the growth. More than
500 college club teams now compete in the USA.
Young
players are attracted to this sport because everyone on the field is
a potential quarterback and receiver. They love the constant action,
diving catches and long, high arcing throws. Every high level game
has plenty of ESPN highlight-clip caliber plays.
Any updates on this proposed Sunday game in Franklin Park? What time
are we thinking? I am interested. I haven't been to JP pickup in
over a year but I'm ready to get back in the saddle.

Hey,
I'm afraid we haven't started up yet. And if we do,
it won't be at the listed location. We got kicked off
Daisy field last year and we haven't settled on a new
field yet.
I'd like to propose to everyone (again) that we play
in Franklin park. There is a field behind the zoo,
next to White stadium that seems to be empty a lot.
There's plenty of parking and it's within walking
distance to the Green st. station on the Orange line.
There is a very, very casual pickup game there in the
afternoon that we shouldn't interfere with. Any
opinions?
