Welcome to the Joe Mauer fan club.
Today is Sunday July 5, 2009.
The Twins 42 and 40 beat the Tigers 44 and 36 yesterday by a score of 4 to 3 at
the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
Minnesota: 4 Runs, 10 Hits, 0 Errors
Detroit: 3 Runs, 5 Hits, 0 Errors
Winning pitcher: Matt Guerrier (4-0).
Losing pitcher: Brandon Lyon (3-4).
Joe Nathan grabbed his 22nd save of the season.
Nick Punto came through in the eighth, hitting a bloop RBI single to give the
Twins a holiday win. Michael Cuddyer was a triple shy of the cycle, and his
fourth hit, an RBI single, tied the game in the seventh. Francisco Liriano
settled for a no-decision after allowing a homer in the seventh.
Today the Twins take on the Tigers in the rubber game of the 3 game series at
the Metrodome in Minneapolis at 1:10 p.m. Pitching for Minnesota right-handed
Nick Blackburn 6 and 4 against Detroit’s right-handed Rick Porcello 8 and 5.
The game will be televised on WFTC29.
Happy Birthday to those of you celebrating birthdays today. David from
Minneapolis Minnesota, Travis from Hollandale Minnesota and Tom from White Bear
Lake Minnesota.
Welcome to new members Craig, Linnea, Sara, Frank, Sarah, Andrew & Nic who bring
us to 485 in the club.
We are counting down the days till:
Target Field opens with the home opener on Monday April 12th, 2010 in 281 days
against the Boston Red Sox.
The All Star Game at Target Field on Tuesday July 15th, 2014 in 1,835 days.
Scouting Report:
Tigers: Porcello surrendered five runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings against the
A's on Monday. He pitched his way into trouble in the fourth, but was able to
limit the damage to two runs, inducing a double play ball to strand a runner at
third. Porcello didn't have the same luck in the fifth. Mark Ellis hit a two-run
shot to left, then Matt Holliday pushed the lead to 5 and 0 with a RBI groundout
to knock Porcello out of the game. He'll look to rebound against a Minnesota
lineup he held scoreless over seven innings on May 5.
Twins: Blackburn delivered his eighth straight quality start for the Twins in
his last outing but had to work his way out of trouble a few times in his six
innings vs. the Royals. Blackburn allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits --
only the second time he's given up 10 or more hits in a start this season. The
right-hander said he gave up too many two-out hits but was pleased by his
ability to work out of trouble. He'll next face the Tigers, a team he's 1 and 3
against in five career appearances (four starts) while posting a 5.76 ERA over
25 innings.
