Today is Sunday August 10, 2008.

The Twins 65-51 beat the Royals 53-64 last night by a score of 4-1 at Kauffman stadium in Kansas City. [box]

Winning Pitcher: Liriano (2-3)

Losing Pitcher: Greinke (9-8)

MIN: Runs 7 Hits 10 Errors 0

KC: Runs 3 Hits 8 Errors 3

The Twins batted around in the sixth inning thanks to a visibly shaken Zack Greinke, and posted five runs that provided the difference as Minnesota edged into first place in the AL Central. Francisco Liriano continued to impress with his second victory since returning to the Majors. [wrap]

MIN HR: Young (5)

KC HR: Olivo (11)

Time: 3:15

Attendance: 27,960

Today the Twins take on the Royals in the final game of the 3 game series at Kauffman stadium in Kansas City at 1:10 p.m.

MIN: RHP Scott Baker (7-3, 3.86 ERA)
Baker didn't exactly have his best stuff in his past start Tuesday against the Mariners. The right-hander delivered perhaps his worst outing of the season, giving up a season-high six runs on nine hits over just 5 1/3 innings. The outing marked only the fourth time in 18 starts this season Baker has allowed more than three earned runs. It was an inability to make an adjustment to get the ball down that cost Baker. He'll try to rebound when he faces the Royals, a team he beat in his first start of the season.

KC: RHP Gil Meche (10-9, 4.17 ERA)
Meche's past outing didn't start so well -- he allowed two runs to the Red Sox in the first inning -- but from there, he settled down by striking out nine en route to a victory, his seventh in his past 11 starts. It was a strange win, though. Meche agreed with manager Trey Hillman that he was effectively wild. Meche walked five batters, and Boston often swung at several pitches out of the strike zone on those strikeouts. Meche is cruising; his ERA has gone down from 5.54 since June 5.

Double Takes: Ron Gardenhire left a message for Michael Cuddyer, but hadn't talked to him yet as of Saturday afternoon. Cuddyer told ESPN he expects to be back this season. Gardenhire said he wanted to wait until Cuddyer saw a doctor Sunday before making any guesses as to if and when Cuddyer would be available. Minnesota is 9-2 in its past 11 games against Kansas City. Delmon Young was just 3-for-34 this season against Kansas City before getting two hits Saturday.
