Gardenhire was asked about Joe Mauer, who is working out in Florida. Mauer already is well known in national media circles because of his talents but also because of his well-documented left knee surgery in May that limited his season to 35 games.

 

"He's doing very well," Gardenhire said. "We've got him down in Florida, and he has been catching simulated games. One of our coaches threw him 160 pitches the last time out."
