Hey guys,

I was reading an article today
about the philosophy of JKD. I was just wondering what
everybody enjoyd more about Jun Fan Gung Fu/Jeet Kune Do
the philosophy of the art and experienceing other
martial arts or just doing the art of Jun Fan gung Fu
itself. Just some food for
thought.

-Jeetkunedoconcepts

Hey Brett

Well i hate to use this qoute
because it's been used so many times but "You must get in
the water and swim to become good at swiming". Same
is true from martial arts and alot of other everyday
activities. If we never practiced walking when we where
little then i don't know if we would be walking right
now. The point is i think in the middle to later
stages of training i think sparring i necessary. You
will never be able to handle a real street situation
if you do not know what to expect. I don't mean soft
little sparring i think all out anything goes (with
protection ofcourse) sparring. There is a great article
about this on sifu Burton Richardsons website, i don't
remember the link off hand but i will post it in the next
few days.

That's my
opinion.
-jeetkunedoconcepts

What do you think. Can a person get what they desire from a school that does not
spar? Or is contact needed to get the technique across to the students.

You know there are a couple of places on the net
that you can get plans for them. My wife's uncle said
that he would build one with me. When I get home I
will try and find where the plans are that I have, and
I will send them to you.

I'm guessing that if you have a dummy, that could help, work it with your eyes
closed...

Cool, I'm a Cabales Serrada practitioner as well.
Yeah, learning stick stuff is great, you can never
learn enough. Right now though, it seems like I don't
have much time to do anything! Which sucks since I
really miss training on a regular basis. I hope to soon,
I hope, I hope!

I think my favorite aspect of jeet kune do is its straight forward simplicity. I
also love learning the sticks.

I dont' train with anybody of Public stature like
like Richard Bustillo, or Dan Inosanto. I'd like to
though. My teacher is a former student of Jesse Glover
from way, way, back. He has worked with Dan and
others.
He trained us in what he called Non-Classical
Wing Chun. Mostly because of his overwhelming respect
for Jesse. Many of the concepts we are taught are
"JKD" though, and I personally believe in JKD and what
it has to offer!
So I can't wait to
converse.
reddingo99

Yeah we do Kali also but not as much as the
WingChun and JKD. I prefer the JFGF andJJKDC to the
WingChun though, WingChun just doesnt seem to fit me very
well but it has helped with my JKD.

AllenJKD

Yeah that's pretty cool. do you also take any
other classes like kali silat or muay thai. i'm
guessing that your school most likely teaches those styles
too. i'd like to take muay thai for the excellent
conditioning and powerful kicking. someday if i can make some
more time for myself i hope too. also hope to teach
JKDC and JFGF someday too. but that's still years
away. first i want to concentrate on my wing chun so
when i do JFGF full time my trapping hands will be at
their best. that's what bruce did supposedly and i
think it is the best way to go because you learn the
proper forms, and structure for all the techniques and
you understand them
better.

-jeetkunedoconcepts

Yes,
My instructor is also certified under
sifu francis fong and sifu dan inasanto. All of the
wing chun that we train comes basically from sifu
fongs way and the JKD thai boxing and filipino arts
come from sifu inasanto. We recently had sifu fong and
sifu inasanto here at our school for a seminar, but i
wasn't able to make it but i
hear that sifu fongs
wing chun is incredible. they're coming back next year
and i won't miss that one for the world.

Do you study at Francis Fongs school? My instructor is certified under Sifu
Fong. I was just wondering since you included him in that picture.
