Hand Combat - Best Way to Block a Punch   Message List

Your reaction time is one of the most important skills you can build when it
comes to combat techniques. The more times you can beat your opponent to the
punch the more times you'll be walking away and they'll be writhing in pain.
But how do you know you'll be faster than your opponent? And the answer is you
don't know, and that's why you need an edge.
You need to know that your body is capable of responding at break-neck speed.
There are techniques that you can learn (and learn quickly) that will make you
at least 50% faster than most people on the street and that's being
conservative.
Most people look directly at their opponents or they are trained to look at the
centre of body mass (the chest area) and I have to say that it's completely
wrong thinking. It causes you to be much to slow and cuts your reaction time
down considerably.
Let me give you a snap shot of what is going through the brain when you use this
method. Your opponent throws a punch, your brain acknowledges the movement, it
tells the muscles in the arm to act the muscles in the arm respond and move to
defend while the brain goes through its mental Rolodex on how to properly block
a punch as the arm moves rigidly into place due to the brain allowing the
release of adrenaline to surge through your body as to protect you from pain and
trauma.
If it sounds slow it's because it is slow and there is a more intelligent way of
doing it. You must learn to use your peripheral vision. This allows the body to
instantly react to any given situation or circumstance without over adrenalizing
and becoming rigid. This allows the body to move quicker as a relaxed muscle is
much faster than muscle that is tight and rigid.
Become a master in peripheral vision training and watch your reaction time speed
up exponentially. There will come a time when you will see the punch before you
opponent has even begun throwing it. In fact, you'll end up throwing a punch as
your block which will seem like you're some kind of super hero or something. A
little over the top, but true none-the-less.
