That was fun.
7 days in increasingly-scorching weather. I got the following freebies:
Staff t-shirt (x3)
Towels (x2)
Awesome laptop backpack (x2)
Pointless shoulder bag
Not-quite-so pointless drawstring bag
1l water bottle
Handy durable metal water bottle (not sure on capacity)
A clip thing with integrated torch
A USB memory device
Lots of meals and
An armchair.
And all I had to do was work for 12 hours (sometimes more) in the very
hot hot heat taking stats and signatures and running around with
water. The nights on which I went out after dinner, we didn't return
home until about 3, so no sleep until 4 (once you factor in
takeaways), and waking at 7 to shower and get to the fields for 8:30.
Awesome.
For anyone who hasn't been reading BritDisc and found the results, or
has tried (and failed) to use the website, here's the finals in the
order they were played:
Junior Women (U20)
Great Britain 15-14 Sweden
U17 Open
Great Britain 10-15 Finland
Masters (32yrs+)
Great Britain 17-11 Finland
Mixed
Great Britain 17-14 Czech Republic
Junior Open
Great Britain 11-17 Germany
Women
Great Britain 13-15 Finland
Open
Great Britain 15-14 Sweden
GB having a team in every final is a fantastic achievement, although
for a few hours on Friday afternoon it seemed unlikely; the Junior
Open team had been kicked out for aggression/violent conduct or
something similar in their Semi Final v Austria. An appeal found that
it would be fairer to just kick off the instigator of the chaos,
rather then the whole team, most of whom were innocent. Or at least,
as innocent as U20s get.
Cesca played for GB Women, and has a lovely shiny silver medal. Beavan
played for GB Open, and has a lovely shiny gold medal (although only
just; that game went to sudden death and that final point was littered
with turnovers and calls).
So yeah. We, by which I mean the GB squads, rock. To an extent.
