I missed it, and I didn't read the preview, but as a NASCAR fan (and
kind of a media guy myself) I think that, well, there's 43 guys out on
the track each week, plus a couple who don't make the race, and I'm
interested in more than Stewart, Gordon, and Junior. Kind of tired of
hearing about every aspect of their lives, actually.
What's Bobby Labonte and Petty Enterprises up to these days? Just what
is Bill Elliott up to with Wood Brothers? Is he planning a comeback or
just keeping busy? How is BAM Racing planning for the future as one-
car teams seem to be dying off or merging? How about that Martin
Truex? He's gotta piss on his own car just to get in the news. He's
won a race this year, and still he's nobody to the major media covering
the events.
Yeah, maybe there's some mediocrity in there, depending on who they
featured, but it's also a refreshing change of pace and more in-depth
than the 8-20-24 focus a lot of news outlets have. Plus it's probably
easier on the media. You can't get near Junior without having to fight
with all the other media trying to cover him in some way, but I bet
even I could get an interview with a guy like John Andretti or David
Reutimann. Tony Stewart's probably also easy to get an interview with,
accounting for all the photographers who have restraining orders
against him...
