2000

I must say that I went through all this with Juris
Terauds and Bob Greger in the 80's and the best advise
they gave me was to let them worry about the mechanics
and studies and for me to just let it happen. I
appreciate your course on biomechanics and there is no one
more focused on CG than myself. Most of what you say
is correct. The problem I have is that athletes try
to think too much as it is and they usually end up
getting worse or Paralisys by analisys.( no Spell check)
I listened to my critics and biomechanics from
Elite athlete project in 84 and ended up loosing my
timing and falling on my face in olympics. The bottom
line is that you need to train the motion memory over
and over and over in slow and medium motion with
rythm and try best to be over your optimium leverage
position consistantly for whichever form you use.
Practicing drills that help you find this leverage position
is what you must do to improve distance and prevent
injury. There are no two throwers who throw exactly the
same. My technique was a mix of many style influences
but most of all it worked for me. When I threw well I
had no idea of what I was doing. It was just
happening and it was fun. When I thought too much about
technique, throwing was'nt much fun. Like great golfers,
ELs, Woods,Garcia, nicklaus, palmer etc. they all had
different swings but they all made good contact and touch
shots their own way. By practicing that motion over and
over and over. Understanding the mechanics of leverage
and practicing quality motor skills with the javelin
throw tends to be the reason most throwers fail to get
better results. The javelin throw is a simple event that
is more time than most presented as a complicated,
technical, almost miracle event that only a few can master.
Keeping it simple is my best advice.
