jim lothrop - a couple of suggetions

From The Forum - Tue Dec 12 11:25:31
2000

When you say you want to have your upper body in
"correct position", I assume that you're maybe
anticipating the throw, and opening the shoulders too soon.

One thought is the "garden hose" drag (garden hose
filled with sand, or a rope with a weight attached for
drag). Do crossovers dragging the hose, and focus on
keeping the shoulders closed, and upper body relaxed.
You'll build strength in the crossover motion this way,
and be able to keep the upper body in the correct
alignment if you do it enough.

Another thought is
to slow things down in your practice throws. If I'm
correct, and you're anticipating the throw with the upper
body, you need to focus on POSITIONS, not distance.
Never sacrifice positions for distance if you're
working on technique. Also, like CC says, at the
penultimate, relax the abdominals. This helps keep the
shoulders and upper body in alignment.

Lots of stuff
to practice, and it takes PATENCE and PRECISION to
improve.

Good luck.
