Lin,
I'm not sure of any training tools that could help this problem, but perhaps
working on your mechanics could help, pardon the pun, straighten out the
problem.
If you are a left handed thrower, you could be trying to throw too much with
your arm and not enough with your body. Try staying more upright at the point
of release. Many beginning throwers have problems with this by attempting to
throw too hard and they fall to the side opposite their throwing hand at the
point of release.
If you are a right handed thrower, you may be opening up your wrist at the point
of release. That is, your wrist may be bent back at an angle in relation to
your forearm. This opens up the angle of the javelin and causes it to stray to
the right. Try turning your wrist in toward your forearm so that at the point
of release, your hand and wrist are upright in relation to your forearm. It may
feel a little uncomfortable at first, but it should straighten it out.
Depending on how much your throws are curving you may actually be losing more
than 3 meters. If they are curving early in flight, the amount of drag caused
by this movement could lead to a significant additional loss of distance. If
you can get this worked out, I think you'll be happily surprised by how far you
throw. I hope these tips help in accomplishing this.

Subject: [Javelin Throw Club] Training Tools
Hello.
I started throwing jav a little late in life...at
about 36. I have been throwing about 4 years and do
pretty well in competition, though I do not quite
throw correctly yet. I tend to throw with a little
curve to the right, losing probably 3 meters per
throw.
Can anyone recommend training tools that might help me
straighten my throw a bit?
Many, many thanks.
My name is Lin.
