DETROIT - It was about this time last year, when Michael Cuddyer took
over right field for the Twins and never looked back. The team hopes
the same thing is happening now for Jason Kubel in left field.
Kubel has started six consecutive games in left, with manager Ron
Gardenhire letting him face both righthanded and lefthanded pitchers.
In this stretch, Kubel is batting .280 (7-for-25).
He went 2-for-5 with three RBI and made a nice diving catch in
Saturday's 11-3 victory against the Tigers.
With a calf injury keeping Rondell White on the disabled list
indefinitely, Kubel will continue to receive his chances.
"We're trying to give him as many at-bats in a row as we can here, to
see if we can get him going," Gardenhire said. "And he's been doing a
good job."
