Left fielder Shannon Stewart has a small tear in the plantar fascia of his
left foot. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday.
"He's not close," Gardenhire said. "He hasn't done any running yet. I
don't think he'll play for 10 days, at least."
That would be more than three weeks without playing, putting Stewart in a
position where the Twins presumably would want him to go on a
rehabilitation assignment for a couple of days before returning to the
lineup.
As long as the Twins stay with the current 11 pitchers, there's a good
chance Jason Kubel will remain with the big club even after Stewart's
return.
"The key to Kubel staying here is getting him enough at-bats -- and I'm
going to make sure that happens," Gardenhire said.
