Subject: [jack_brooks_trails] Meeting #3Jack Brooks Mountain Bike Trails
Sunday, 3, 2003
I want to thank everybody that came to the meeting. The large number of volunteers at the meeting was very encouraging for the work that lies ahead. We walked the first part of the trails Highland Bayou, over the Golden Gate Bridge into Hell and the Trails Section. We discussed new lines that would dry faster and keep the trail challenging. Drainage is one of the biggest challenges ahead of us in order to have trails that dry faster. Everybody recognized the potential for improving the existing trails and having a great place for all of us to ride.
The first projects will consist of improving the drainage and clearing of new trails at the beginning of the trail. Draining the water from the low areas will help trails dry faster and prevent new work from getting eroded quickly by sitting water. Clearing new trails in some areas will require less maintenance then the older trails and add new challenges to the trails. Once we have the first loop under control we will move on to other trails. As we begin to obtain materials such as crushed concrete and wood the damaged areas at the beginning of the trails will take first priority. The loop we walked will be our first goal in getting the trails up to speed.
Quinton will be at the Jack Brooks Park this Saturday the 8th at 10:00 to do some trail marking. We will also have another meeting on Sunday the 16th to discuss future projects and get information about when materials will be available for trail work. We can meet earlier to have our meeting and have time to do trail work how is 11:00am? Send me an e-mail of what time is best for each of you and we can put it to a vote to decide a good time for all of us.
