IWA Mid-South News for 06.10.05
--by Stacy McMackin, Moderator--
We're just a day away from IWA Mid-South Wrestling's debut in Philadelphia,
PA. The show will be part of a double header this Saturday, 6/11, at the New
Alhambra Sports Center (the former ECW Arena/Viking Hall, at the corner of
Swanson & Ritner), with a show later that evening promoted by Combat Zone
Wrestling. Bell time for the IWA-MS card is 2pm. Tickets will be available at
the door.
This show is a groundbreaking event in IWA-MS company history, as it marks
the first time the promotion will hold an event further east than Ohio. Fans on
the east coast have a rare opportunity to see the IWA-MS product live and in
person without having to travel to the middle of the country! The IWA-MS crew
is proud to be a part of what should be an unforgettable weekend of pro
wrestling on the east coast.
The main event features an intriguing first time ever match between Samoa Joe
and Necro Butcher. IWA-MS management put the match together at the request of
wrestling fans who wondered just what would happen if one of the craziest
hardcore wrestlers in the world today was put in the ring with one of the
hardest
hitting, most intimidating big men in the sport. Both are former IWA-MS
tournament winners, with Joe walking away with 2004 Revolution Strong Style
Tournament honors, and Necro having won the 2002 King of the Death Matches
Tournament. Joe cut an intense promo concerning the forthcoming bout back on 4/9
in
Highland, IN, citing that he wasn't happy to hear about Necro "unprofessionally"
roughing up two of the Ring of Honor wrestling school students during a recent
match. Nobody knows what to expect out of this match. Will it turn into an all
out brawl around the building, with Joe getting more hardcore than he
typically does? Will Necro try to go hold for hold, move for move with Joe
inside the
ring? We will find out Saturday afternoon.
There will be a Six-Man Tag Team contest held under Hardcore Rules (whatever
the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission will allow) pitting "Bad Breed" of
Ian & Axl Rotten, along with their partner Balls Mahoney, against three
lunatics of the death match style in Mad Man Pondo & JC Bailey & "Mr. Insanity"
Toby
Klein. During a weekend that celebrates ECW's past, Ian's team are certainly
out to prove that they are the kings of Philadelphia street fights in this
matchup. Word from Pondo's camp is that their team has an unexpected trick up
their sleeve for the match that will give them an added advantage come Saturday.
IWA World Heavyweight Champion Jimmy Jacobs will defend the title against the
winner of a three man Gauntlet Series between three former champs in Chris
Hero & Danny Daniels & "Anarchist" Arik Cannon. It was Daniels who Jacobs won
the title from on 4/1 in Herrin, IL, and in the time since, Jacobs has refused
to give Daniels a rematch for the belt. Cannon is also out to reclaim the title
which technically he never lost, as he was stripped of the belt during late
2004 upon suffering a cracked collarbone which kept him sidelined for four
months. Hero is a multiple time former IWA champ who is eager to once again
represent the company as champion. All four of these mean desperately want to
walk
away from Philly wearing the strap, and Jimmy Jacobs has proven thus far in his
title reign that he is willing to do anything necessary to remain champion.
The unorthodox masked competitor Delirious will put the IWA Light Heavyweight
Title on the line against the winner of the 4/9 "Simply The Best 6" junior
heavyweight high flyers tournament, Josh Abercrombie. Delirious has successfully
held onto the title since regaining it from Jimmy Jacobs during late 2004.
Abercrombie has yet to wear IWA-MS an IWA-MS title in his career, despite
quickly rising among the junior ranks of the promotion. This is a key
opportunity
for Abercrombie to continue to move up the ladder.
MsChif will put her IWA Women's Title on the line against two challengers in
a three-way bout on Saturday afternoon. Her former tag team partner and east
coast standout Allison Danger will get her first IWA Women's Title shot on her
"home turf" of Philadelphia. Additionally, IWA-MS trainee Mickie Knuckles will
continue her war with MsChif, and get a chance to walk away wearing the belt.
Knuckles and MsChif have had a wild series of matches in recent months--
falls count anywhere, no DQ, submission only, and the first IWA-MS women's steel
cage match. It wasn't until 4/30 in the cage that Mickie was finally able to
score a victory over MsChif in their series. Will MsChif be able to hold onto
the title in her first defense since winning the belt back on 5/7 from Daizee
Haze? Will Danger be able to shoot to the top of the highly competitive IWA-MS
Women's Division with a key victory here? Will Mickie realize her dream of
holding the title that represents the promotion she calls home? Three very
determined female athletes will struggle for the title on Saturday.
As if MsChif and Jimmy Jacobs didn't have their hands full with multiple
challengers coming after their respective titles in Philly, the IWA World Tag
Team
Champions of Trik Davis & Ryan Boz have an even tougher task in front of them
with four challenging teams coming after their belts. It will be a Five-Way
Elimination Tables Match. Two teams will start off, with a new team entering
the match every two minutes. Once one member of a team is put through a table,
his team is eliminated. The team standing at the end will be the champs. The
Iron Saints, Eric Priest & Silas Young, Brandon Thomaselli & B-Boy, and Jim
Fannin's duo of BJ Whitmer & Eddie Kingston will be participating in the match.
This could be one of the craziest table breaking exhibitions ever seen!
A special attraction bout, which on any other card would be a main event,
will pit former IWA World Champ CM Punk, accompanied by his students Davey
Andrews & Shane Hagadorn, against "The Notorious 187" Homicide. While these two
men
have met in other promotions, this will be the first singles match between the
two in IWA-MS competition. Quite simply, it's a match between two of the best
wrestlers on the indie scene today.
In a match dubbed by experts as "Ultra Mega Swiss Homicide," it will be
veteran wrestler "The Wild Eyed Southern Boy" Tracy Smothers taking on rising
star
"Double C" Claudio Castagnoli. The match should be a memorable first time
affair, between two very different personalities.
