We are just over a week away from the biggest week in IWA Mid-South Wrestling during 2004, featuring an Indiana quadruple shot of events in Evansville, New Albany, and Highland. Below is all of the information on the 24 wrestlers competing in this year's Ted Petty Invitational tournament, as well as lineup information and driving directions concerning all four shows.

The 2004 TPI tournament will take place on Friday & Saturday, September 17th & 18th, at the Lincoln Center (2450 Lincoln Street) in Highland, IN. Bell time each night is 7:30pm. Tickets are available in advance as weekend passes covering both nights. Weekend passes are available at $50, $40, and $30. The two night passes will be available at the door on Friday until 7pm. Single night tickets will also be available at the door each night, while they last. Venue capacity is 380 fans.

This will be the fifth installment of the former Sweet Science Sixteen tournament, renamed to honor a master of many wrestling styles, the late "Flyboy Rocco Rock" Ted Petty. Previous years saw...

2000 - Chris Hero
2001 - Ace Steel
2002 - BJ Whitmer
2003 - Danny Daniels

Below is a recap of the 24 wrestlers announced for TPI participation.

1. AUSTIN ARIES. The first wrestler invited for TPI participation by Ian Rotten, after a match against Matt Sydal on 4/17 in Lafayette. Went to the finals of the ECWA Super 8 tournament this year, while also frequently competing for ROH and IWA. This will be his first SS16/TPI appearance.

2. MATT SYDAL. Former IWA Light Heavyweight Champion; was also invited for TPI participation on 4/17 in Lafayette. Made his IWA debut in November 2003, and quickly established himself, winning the Light Heavyweight Title in January 2004, and having a Match of the Year contender against AJ Styles during April. This will be his first SS16/TPI appearance.

3. "Spyder" NATE WEBB. Was invited by Ian Rotten after their bout in the first round of the 2004 KOTDM tournament. Former IWA Light Heavyweight Champion. Will likely be the only wrestler to compete in both the KOTDM and TPI tournaments during 2004. This will be his third SS16/TPI appearance.

This will be his first SS16/TPI appearance.

12. ALEX SHELLEY. Currently a featured competitor in TNA as well as ROH, this Baby Bear gained a great deal of his early experience in IWA rings, particularly during a series of matches against Jimmy Jacobs. Went to the finals last year against Chris Hero and Danny Daniels. This will be his second SS16/TPI appearance.

13. JIMMY RAVE. This Georgia based athlete has competed in NWA Wildside, ROH, and CZW rings as of late, while making appearances every so often for IWA as well. Made it to the second round of the past two TPI tournaments. This will be his third SS16/TPI appearance.

14. HALLOWICKED. Star of the first graduating class at Chikara Wrestle Factory, this masked competitor, trained by Reckless Youth and Mike Quackenbush, is largely considered to be the best all around singles wrestler produced by the school. This will be his first SS16/TPI appearance.

15. "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON. After making his IWA debut on July 4, 2003, this Minnesota based grappler went on to have a strong first round match last year against Chris Hero. In the time since has had memorable bouts against the likes of Delirious, Ian Rotten, Samoa Joe, Tracy Smothers, and Hero (in rematches). Earned an impressive victory against "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson on 7/31. This will be his second SS16/TPI appearance.

16. "Double C" CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI. The current Westside Xtreme Wrestling Heavyweight Champion. This member of Swiss Money Holding trained under Chris Hero, as well as in clinics with the likes of Dave Taylor, Tony St. Clair, and Skayde. Made his IWA debut in July of 2002. This will be his first SS16/TPI appearance.

17. DANNY DANIELS. Winner of the 2003 Ted Petty Invitational tournament, defeating Chris Hero and Alex Shelley in the finals. This former IWA World Heavyweight Champion had the longest reign of any IWA World Champion in recent memory. This will be his second SS16/TPI appearance.

18. NIGEL McGUINNESS. This British grappler debuted in IWA during 2003, with impressive bouts against the likes of BJ Whitmer and Chris Hero, among others. Went to the second round of last year's tournament, scoring a first round victory over Brad Bradley. Also competes for HWA, NBWA, and ROH when not appearing for IWA. This will be his second SS16/TPI appearance.

19. "Lightning" MIKE QUACKENBUSH. Co-trainer at Chikara Wrestle Factory in Allentown, PA. Mixes American pro wrestling style with lucha libre and puroresu influences. Debuted in IWA in the 2001 SS16 tournament, and made return appearances during each year that followed. This will be his second SS16/TPI appearance.

20. SAMOA JOE. This international star is currently undefeated in IWA singles competition, and is the reigning ROH World Champion. Made his way to IWA in April of 2004, defeating (at the time) IWA World Champ BJ Whitmer in a non-title bout. Scored victories against Arik Cannon, Steve Stone, Chris Hero, and Homicide in subsequent appearances. This will be his first SS16/TPI appearance.

21. SALVATORE RINAURO. Frequent wrestler for NWA Wildside. Made his IWA debut at the 2003 TPI, falling to Jimmy Jacobs in first round competition. Returned to IWA ranks during 2004, and has been invited back for this year's tournament. This will be his second SS16/TPI appearance.

22. AJ STYLES. Former NWA World Heavyweight Champion and TNA X Division Champion. Largely regarded as one of the best lighter weight wrestlers in the world today, with a dynamic high flying repertoire. Debuted in IWA during the 2002 TPI tournament, falling to Christopher Daniels in the first round. Returned for more TPI action in 2003, defeating Todd Sexton in the first round, and being eliminated by Danny Daniels in the second. This will be his third SS16/TPI appearance.

23. SUPER DRAGON. This masked wrestler frequently competes on the California independent scene. The official hotel of the Ted Petty Invitational weekend is the AmeriHost Inn, 7813 Indianapolis Blvd, Hammond, IN 46324. Their telephone number is 219-845-4678. Mention that you are with IWA, and you will receive a discounted room rate ($69 per night). Rooms available while they last, so make your reservations ASAP if you're planning on coming in from out of town to catch the TPI.

We are happy to inform the fans that Smart Mark Video will be in to shoot all four events for VHS and DVD releases!

Additionally on 9/18 from 11am to 2pm at the Lincoln Center will be a training seminar with former NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Phenomenal" AJ STYLES! If you've ever wanted to get in the ring yourself and get a taste of what it's like to be a professional wrestler, this is your "fantasy camp" opportunity to learn about what it takes to physically perform in the ring from one of the very best in the business today. The seminar is open to fans with no pro wrestling experience, as well as those who may have some training under their belt already who would like to learn hands-on from AJ. The three hour seminar is limited to 25 people, and is available on a first come, first served basis. Cost is $75, and must be paid in full on Friday, 9/17. Only a few spots still remain. If you are interested in participating, please E-mail Patti at RottenWife@... to reserve your spot.

As soon as the training seminar concludes at 2pm, we will conduct a fan Q&A session for the remainder of the afternoon, with many of the wrestlers appearing during the weekend's events. Admission to the Q&A is free of charge to all fans, but seating will be limited. The Q&A, as always, will be filmed by Smart Mark Video for a future VHS release.
