IWA Mid-South News for 08.22.04
--------------------------------------------
by Stacy McMackin, Moderator

HEADLINES:
--LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE DECLARED VACANT!!
--AMERICAN DRAGON DEFEATS CHRIS HERO!!
--TED PETTY INVITATIONAL MATCHES ANNOUNCED!!

IWA Mid-South Wrestling, in association with NWA Midwest, returned to the
Lincoln Center in Highland, IN on Saturday night, August 21st for "An IWA Fairy
Tale: The Hero vs. The Dragon." Here's what went down...

Promoter IAN ROTTEN opened the show by announcing the first round pairings
for the 24-man 2004 Ted Petty Invitational single elimination technical
wrestling tournament, to take place on September 17th & 18th at the Lincoln
Center.

Chris Hero vs. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush
Jimmy Jacobs vs. Jimmy Rave
"Spyder" Nate Webb vs. Hallowicked
Nigel McGuinness vs. Double C
BJ Whitmer vs. Petey Williams
Chris Sabin vs. "Soul Assassin" Rainman
Ray Gordy vs. Alex Shelley
"Anarchist" Arik Cannon vs. Delirious
Todd Sexton vs. Danny Daniels
Roderick Strong vs. Samoa Joe
Salvatore Rinauro vs. Matt Sydal
Austin Aries vs. CM Punk

Additionally, Rotten announced that Brad Bradley & Ryan Boz would defend the
IWA World Tag Team Titles in a three-way tag match during TPI weekend, against
"The Wildcards" (Eddie Kingston & Black Jack Marciano) and the gigantic NWA
Wildside duo of Tank and Iceberg.

1. JC BAILEY def. ICARUS (from Chikara Wrestle Factory in Pennsylvania) with
the Bardstown Bam top rope legdrop in the opening contest.

2. TRIK DAVIS def. RYAN BOZ (w/ Jim Fannin) in an No Disqualification bout
after a low blow followed by a roll up. Davis called Fannin out to the ring,
issuing a challenge to any of his men for a No DQ match, and Boz accepted. Davis
tried use of powder to the eyes, as well as trying to suffocate Boz with a
plastic bag, before resorting to a low blow to score the three count. After the
fall, BJ Whitmer and Danny Daniels hit the ring to join Boz and Fannin in
issuing a post-match beating. Daniels soon retreated back to the locker room,
wanting nothing to do with Fannin's orders.

3. JIMMY JACOBS wrestled DELIRIOUS to a double pin in their bout for Jacobs'
IWA Light Heavyweight Title with a roll up and bridge which saw both
wrestlers' shoulders counted down. Referee BRYCE REMSBURG was struck with an
inadvertent missile dropkick from Jacobs, and was out of commission as Jacobs
hit the
Contra Code on Delirious, only for no referee to be there to count. TOMMY
THOMPSON soon hit the ring to officiate the remainder of the match, and counted
the
double pin. A revived Remsburg stated moments later that he, as the official
assigned to the match, agreed to go with Thompson's call in his place. The
title was immediately declared vacant until a decision could be reached by IWA
management in the locker room concerning the situation.

4. MATT SYDAL def. "Spyder" NATE WEBB to retain the NWA Midwest X Division
Title after Webb was thrown off the top rope into an unintentional backflip,
landed chest first on the canvas, and Sydal followed up with a shooting star
press.

DAVE PRAZAK then called Jacobs and Delirious back out to the ring and
announced that the two wrestlers came to an agreement with IWA management
moments
earlier in the back, to where both men elected to withdraw from first round
competition in the TPI tournament on 9/17 in favor of battling over the IWA
Light
Heavyweight Title, suspended from the Lincoln Center ceiling in a Ladder Match.
Prazak stated that promoter IAN ROTTEN was going to make some phone calls and
keep the fans posted as to who might take Jacobs' and Delirious' spots in the
first round of the tournament.

5. "American Dragon" BRYAN DANIELSON def. CHRIS HERO via submission after
divorce courting the arm of Hero off the top rope, followed by the Cattle
Mutilation. Danielson picked Hero's arm as his target for the duration of the
bout.
After the match, "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON approached the ring and told Dragon to
leave him and Hero alone. Cannon reminded Hero that he defeated Danielson on
7/31 in Highland, and now Hero couldn't do the same. Cannon left the ring with
the mic, refusing to give it to Hero "so the fans wouldn't have to listen to
him whine again about losing."

6. "Scrap Iron" ADAM PEARCE (w/ "The Hustler" Carmine DeSpirito) def. JUSTIN
KAGE with a jumping piledriver. DeSpirito unveiled longtime ally Pearce as
Kage's mystery opponent in Kage's initial IWA Mid-South appearance, and Pearce
had some choice words for Kage as well as the fans of Highland on the mic before
the match began. True to form, Pearce used his old school wrestling style, as
well as a handful of tights, to gain the victory.

IAN ROTTEN welcomed fans back from intermission by announcing that he had a
rranged by telephone for the replacements to fill the voids left by Jacobs and
Delirious pulling out of TPI. He announced that "The Phenomenal" AJ STYLES will
take Jacobs' first round position against Jimmy Rave, while SUPER DRAGON
would take the place of Delirious in the first round against Arik Cannon. Rotten
explained to the crowd that he had cut a deal with Jersey All-Pro Wrestling
(which has Super Dragon booked on their 9/18 event), that in the event Super
Dragon advances to the second round, IWA will provide Jersey All-Pro Wrestling
with his replacement, out of the 12 men eliminated in the first round on 9/17.

7. NIGEL McGUINNESS & CHAD COLLYER def. BJ WHITMER & DANNY DANIELS in tag
team action after Whitmer abandoned Daniels during the closing moments of the
match, due to the growing tension between the two men. Not only did Whitmer deny
Daniels a tag, but struck his now former partner in the head, leading to the
victory for the McGuinness/Collyer duo.

8. "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON def. "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE (w/ B-Boy) with
a cradle for a quick pinfall victory in a very hard hitting bout. Homicide
delivered numerous vicious headbutts during the match, but despite Homicide's
brutal repertoire, Cannon's craftiness made the difference when it came down to
the pinfall. After the match, after being denied a handshake by Cannon,
Homicide went to give Cannon the Cop Killa, only to be saved from it by CHRIS
HERO
hitting the ring and talking Homicide into returning to the locker room. Hero
reminded Cannon that he was the one responsible for plucking Cannon out of
Minnesota wrestling obscurity and bringing him to IWA Mid-South, and that he
needs
to be more of a man about things if he wants to realize his potential.

DAVE PRAZAK then brought out reigning NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's
Champion LACEY for an in-ring interview. Lacey explained to the fans her injury
(a
torn MCL and dislocated kneecap) which has sidelined her from competition
since early July. Prazak reminded her that the IWA and NWA Midwest officials
have
been lenient with the 30 day title defense rule due to her showing in the
title tournament. When Lacey speculated that she may need "another four or five
months" of recovery time, Prazak informed her that she has roughly one month to
prepare, because she will have to defend the title at the TPI weekend against
one of her opponents in the finals of the tournament, MERCEDES MARTINEZ.

9. "Metalhead" STEVE STONE def. IAN ROTTEN when NWA Midwest promoter ED
CHUMAN approached ringside and called for referee MICKIE KNUCKLES to end the
match
due to Ian's blood loss and inability to continue. As a result of the
decision, Stone earns his spot back on the IWA Mid-South roster. After the
match,
Rotten went on a verbal tirade at Chuman, stating that IWA Mid-South is his
company, and he knows what's in his own best interests. Rotten then declared
that he
and Stone would battle at TPI weekend in a match that the NWA will have no
jurisdiction over, a non-sanctioned Falls Count Anywhere/Anything Goes match
held under traditional IWA rules.

10. CM PUNK def. "The New Age Punisher" B-BOY (w/ Homicide) via submission
with the human torture rack. Punk relentlessly focused on B-Boy's back for the
duration of the match, softening him up for the finishing hold. Neither B-Boy
nor Punk were able to connect with a shining wizard on their opponent during
the match, which was a blend of submission wrestling and strikes.

12. MAD MAN PONDO def. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN in a Fan Lumberjack Strap
Match, following a senton off the ropes onto Klein, trapped under a fort
constructed with multiple chairs. Sixteen fans were chosen at random from the
ticket
stubs to be at ringside armed with leather straps. Besides the fans with the
straps, the men also utilized a staple gun and Pondo's stop sign during the
match.

The event was filmed with two cameras by Smart Mark Video for home video
release, with commentary by Dave Prazak, CM Punk, Nate Webb, and Carmine
DeSpirito.

Mail order ticket information for the TPI weekend shows will be posted on the
IWA web site this coming week for those who have not had the opportunity to
purchase their tickets at a recent live IWA event.
