IWA Mid-South Hardcore Wrestling returned to action at the IWA Arena in Clarksville, IN on Saturday night, 4/26. Here are your results...
1. Nigel McGuiness def. Gavin Starr in the opening contest.
2. Stevie Lee def. Elvis Elliot. This was the IWA Mid-South debuts of two competitors from the Ohio and Michigan independent scene.
Michael Todd Stratton gave an interview in the ring with Jim Fannin. Stratton was wearing a neck brace as a result of taking several piledrivers on a steel chair last Friday night from Ian Rotten at April Bloodshowers. Todd announced that he is placing a $5,000 bounty on Ian Rotten to anyone who puts Ian out of wrestling. He called JC Bailey to the ring and encouraged him to collect the bounty, but Bailey refused, which prompted Danny Daniels and Jimmy Jacobs to hit the ring and attack JC from behind. Daniels, Jacobs, and Stratton triple teamed Bailey until Corporal Robinson, Ian Rotten, and Chris Hero ran them off.
3. Danny Daniels def. Alex Shelley. In the closing moments of the match, Jimmy Jacobs came to ringside and distracted Shelley, allowing for Daniels to get the tombstone piledriver and the victory.
4. JC Bailey def. Jimmy Jacobs to retain the IWA Light Heavyweight Championship. During this matchup, Alex Shelley gave Jacobs a little bit of payback, hitting a springboard dropkick, assisting Bailey in getting the eventual victory. Shelley and Jacobs exchanged words on the mic and said the war between the two is far from over.
5. Chris Hero def. Simon Sezz to retain the IWA World Heavyweight Championship. Sezz has been asking for a match against Hero for several months now, and he finally got it. When Sezz was unable to defeat Hero with his wrestling ability, he resorted to using an assortment of foreign objects in the closing mintutes of the match, including a chain, powder in the eyes, plastic bag over the head, and brass knux. Hero wound up kicking out of all of Simon's attempts, and after hitting a jumping Hero's Welcome, trapped Sezz in the Hangman's Clutch and made him tap out.
6. Corporal Robinson def. Ian Rotten in the main event of the evening. The match lasted roughly 20 minutes, the opening 3/4 of which consisted of a lot of submission holds and hard hitting strikes, very similar in style to Rotten's matches during 2002 against Chris Hero in Dayton, OH and Tarek the Great at Retro Night. The action eventually spilled out amongst the fans, and Robinson introduced a barbed wire table and fluorescent light tubes into the match. Ian hit Corp with his own finisher, the Boot Camp (Corba Clutch/Russian legsweep) on four light tubes, but Robinson kicked out. Seconds later, Robinson hit Rotten with the Boot Camp himself, and got the pinfall victory.
SHOW NOTES: Ian Rotten opened the show with several announcements. He stated that unless business picks up during the remainder of 2003 to a point where the promotion is drawing enough fans on a consistent basis to stay financially stable, IWA Mid-South will hold its final shows during the month of December. He said that too many fans take for granted that IWA is always going to be here, and don't attend shows on a consistent basis, but the sad truth is that IWA is not always going to be here unless there is substantial support for the regular weekly events... Ian announced that the "Spirit of 76" event on 5/24 will feature the IWA Mid-South debut of Chris Hamrick... The 6/28 event "The Revolution" will consist of an eight man strong style tournament... "King of the Death Matches" on 8/1 & 8/2 will feature some non-tournament matches of note, including the wrestling debut of Mickie against Rain, and Ian announced that he's going to give the fans traveling from other parts of the country for KOTDM the added bonus of seeing CM Punk vs. Chris Hero live on that weekend... This coming Sunday, 5/4, is "Derby Madness 2003." CM Punk will be on the card, as well as the return of Lucy after sustaining a knee injury at the "Freak-A-Thon" a few weeks ago. Matches for "Derby Madness" will be announced in the coming days both on the IWA web site as well as the hotline at 502-569-1701.

KING OF THE DEATH MATCHES 2003 UPDATE

IWA Mid-South Hardcore Wrestling will present its annual King of the Death Matches tournament on Friday & Saturday, August 1st & 2nd, at the IWA Arena (1390 Woerner Ave.) in Clarksville, IN. Tickets are now available for the weekend's events.
First and second row are sold out. The prices for the two night passes are $36 for third and fourth row, and $32 for General Admission. The single night tickets are $20 for third and fourth row, and $18 for General Admission. Tickets will NOT be able to be reserved. For information on the east coast bus trip to KOTDM, e-mail IWABusTrips@...). Tickets are going fast for KOTDM, and it has become first come, first served.
