Hi all,
Im new to the group and to running, im Male, 86kg, 6'1" and 31 years old
and have been running for approx 10 weeks.
About 6-7 weeks ago i noticed a little bit of pain in my knees, nothing
major I just figured my body would get use to it. it never really
became an issue but it was more noticeable near the end of my runs,
which range between 4-6.5km (I usually run 3 times a week)
2 Weeks ago I went for my first 10km run, I felt pain in my knees but
just ran through it, for the rest of the day and the next it was sore to
walk due to pain in the knee area, again I just figured my body would
get use to it and dint pay too much attention. I took the following
week off running.
On the Monday (6.5km run a week after the 10km run) the pain wasn't
really that memorable, the Wednesday I ran a quicker 6.5km, I ran
through the bit of pain I had. That Sunday I ran 13km, a lot of pain
after the 7km mark and that night and following day walking was painful
to walk. Tuesday I tried to run but at the 3km mark got knee pain and
decided I should stop.
The pain im getting is on the outside of the knee, my left knee tends to
hurt first.
I have read a bit on the net and I think its ITBS.
When I first started running I brought a pair of Asics GT2120's they
have quite a bit of midsole support, the guy from the shop wasn't sure
what shoe I should get as in bare feet on the treadmill I was neutral
but in shoes I tended to pronate. From what I have read this might be
the cause, the firm midsole putting pressure on the outside of leg.
I brought some Asics Gel Nimbus 9 yesterday, theses are their top
neutral shoe and the salesman (different shop) said he understood why
the last guy sold me the 2120's but after putting me on the treadmill
suggested a neutral shoe.
Just wondering what thoughts you guys and girls might have and if
changing shoes has helped anyone.
Thanks for you time.
