I decided on surgery when all the passive measures didn't work and my pain
continued to get worse. Since surgery, though, the 2 successful things I've
done (that I'd suggest you try before surgery, just to see) are custom made
orthodics (I have 1 completely and 1 partially fallen arch) and a chiropractor
(she found all kinds of things "wrong" with me post surgery). I've done both
of these in the last few months and they have helped me go from OK to Great.
Also, from my good experience, I'd suggest for anyone who likes to run, esp if
you've ever had any problems/injuries, to get some orthotics made. It's one
thing to walk everyday incorrectly, but if your feet aren't tracking right and
you run miles on them, you could really hurt yourself like I did. I wonder
what would have happened if I would have gotten orthotics back when I started
running 10 years ago.
I went for 2 years before having surgery, so feel free to ask any questions
about treatments - I've tried them ALL - surgery, PT, etc.
Get well soon,
Ellen
