I ALWAYS fold them before the ticket office. Hell, I used to ride all
the way there (it's a long passage from the security to the tickets) -
till they told me to stop, and I obliged.

It was around 19:00 or so. And no, I did not ride there on Thu. It all
probably depends on the specific station manager. I passed there again
today (about an hour ago), but on the way out. I will be returning
this evening through that station, and we'll see again :).

Nonsence. As I said, this looks like a local initiative of an overly
zealous station manager.
