Dear Friends,
I am pleased to inform you that these news are coming to you from
Guatemala City, directly from the seat of the 119th IOC Session,
general assembly of the IOC Members convened to decide upon many
important topics, such as modifications of the Olympic Chart, elect
host Cities (like Sochi, freshly elected as seat of the 2014 Winter
Olympics), and recognition or exclusion of International Sports
Federation.
I have the honour of representing FIRS here in Guatemala City and,
day by day, I receive the appreciation of the top world sports
managers for the high attractiveness of our rollersports,
undoubtedly at the top of their development today.
A great show of concern and enthusiasm comes to us from HE Sheikh
Ahmad Al-Sabah, President OCA (Olympic Council of Asia), whom I had
pleasure to meet and spend some time with. HE Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah
is very enthusiastic about our sports, confirming his satisfaction
in having roller disciplines in the Asian Games, and - to my great
pleasure - requesting details concerning the organisation of roller
sports events (artistic, speed) in indoor special facilities in the
countries of the Middle-East. So much interest from such an
important world level sports manager meets the FIRS will of opening
to new countries and show to new audiences the potentials and high
sports values of each and every roller discipline.
The most important meeting in these days at Guatemala City is the
one fixed with the IOC President, Jacques Rogge. Thanks to
President's Rogge availability, I am confident we shall touch
important and fundamental aspects connected with the position of the
rollersports in the IOC lines, knowing that our sports are perfectly
tuned in with the IOC expression of opening to young people and
mostly sport meant as evolution.
It will be my care to inform you in the next days about this
important meeting and the possible guidelines which I shall
hopefully receive for a brand new path, surely closer to the Olympic
movement.
Sabatino Aracu
FIRS President
