ART OF ENERGETICS
TIAN UK VISIT
During September 2004 Tian Yin Jia – Tian Bing Yuan – Yao Guo Qing
will be visiting the UK to do a series of demonstrations and two
seminars. Tian Yin Jia is son of Tian Zhao Lin, who was adopted son
of Yang Jian Hou. He represents the 4th generation of the Yang family
art. Tian Bing Yuan is his son and successor in Tai-Chi. Yao Guo Qing
is his primary Tudi. Tian Yin Jia is the most senior member of the
Yang Family tradition and the only member of the 4th generation to
visit the west, and for us to be able to witness and join into his
training is a privilege of the highest level. Please read the

The demonstrations will be available for all to attend and will
include the most demonstrate-able parts of Yang Jian Hou's Tai-Chi
Chuan curriculum including the elements hitherto considered to be
secret or for family members and disciples only. Large - Middle -
Small Frame and Fast Hand Forms will be shown either in part or
entirety depending on available time. As will the two person forms
and pushing hands techniques. Weapons forms will be limited to those
that can be easily transported to the venues such as Jian and Dao
Swords. Participation by those that wish in the audience will be
invited for the 8 brocades exercises and warm ups.

The seminars will be on the Yang Family 8 brocades and Middle Frame
Hand Form 1st part, and some Pushing Hands. The original Frame of
Yang Jian Hou's father Yang Lu Chan was called Small Frame, it was
entirely energetic in nature and required a profound level of
internal development in order to even understand the processes
involved. The Middle Frame was developed and finalized by Jian Hou as
an interim step to allow people to obtain a level of development to
be able to benefit from and understand the Small Frame. The Large
Frame (the common form of Yang Tai-Chi Chuan available in the west)
was developed and finalized by Yang Cheng Fu (Jian Hou's 3rd Son) for
the benefit of the public at large. The major difference are that
Large frame only contains the full major gestures performed on a
physical and structural level in order to understand connection and
flow. The Middle Frame contains these major gestures, but also more
importantly the energetic expressions that mark the real Yang Family
transmission. The Small Frame only contains the energetic. Only when
students have been doing the Large Frame for long enough to
appreciate and start to understand how the energetic levels of the
art actually work (see interview) will the Middle Frame have any real
benefit for students. This is usually obtained with a minimum of 5
years Large Frame training, depending upon commitment and correctness
of that training. For this reason the seminars will only be available
to students with this level of commitment and training.

Learning in a seminar environment even if you manage to attend both
is a very difficult and fraught process, and all such training
events, which have become prevalent in the west as a form of
business, are mostly a complete waste of time. The seminar process
does not give you the time to take the knowledge in internally so you
end up not owning the knowledge, as you have not earned it!! We fully
understand these limitations which is why both during August before,
and after the event there will be Saturday afternoon training
sessions to help the training processes take root held in Epping at
the seminar venue.

This visit will be an annual event, but it is very unlikely that 74-
year-old Tian Yin Jia will attend future ones, that will be left as
the responsibility of his son Tian Bing Yuan and his primary student
Yao Guo Qing. So please don't miss this years historic and unique
event in Tai-Chi history. Future event will finish the Middle Frame
and move onto other elements within Jian Hou's Yang Family curriculum.
