Of course it can be used for practical selfdefense, in fact, in the
traditional styles, there are special forms for training these skills. Just
to mention some: tuishou, sanshou, weapons forms, chansijing, internal jing
development. But it takes too much time for the mayority of the westerners
to accept. It was a matter of all your life. Only the long form was to be
practised 8 times in a row each day. Thousands of Qigong exercises to
dominate your energy.... As the ancient people said: Taichi is like a needle
wraped in cotton.
