Issue: # 2July/2009
Greetings!

The July edition of the 2009 Splash and Dash Race Series is rapidly approaching. Race night is Thursday, July 9th at 6pm!

We have a few adjustments/announcements for this race:

First, there has been a lot of demand for a "Open Water Swim" only category. So we have caved to all the non-runners and you will be able to participate in only a swim race. You should simply register for the race in the manner and inform race officials at packet pick up.

Second, we are going to change the direction of the swim course as a test to see if this will alleviate a tough to navigate setting sun.

Three, PARKING. Please be aware that if you park anywhere near the park and your tires are over the white line on the road the Santa Clara Sheriff's Department will consider you to be parked in the road and will ticket you.

You can save money by registering before July 1st. So head on over to active.com to get signed up now.

Thanks, we look forward to seeing you on race day.

Morning all,

Just a quick note to let you know what is happening regarding last week's race.

First, let me apologize personally.  After talking to the race director numerous times, I felt comfortable that he had a good shot at putting on a good race.  I passed on that encouragement to the club and the board.  All I can say is that amongst people in the local tri community, the best advice was given to the new race director.  It clearly wasn't listened to.

I'm talking with the RD and passing on the comments from the discussion group.  I would encourage you to also offer up your opinions directly to him.  As many people already said, this race has a great history, and being the only major race in our backyard, we deserve much better.

I'll do, as will SVTC, everything we can to make sure that happens.

Have a great training weekend, and see everyone at the next club meeting!
Mike

Actually, we already have a $15 discount code posted in the members only section of the NEW website.
The one below looks like it was meant for the Golden Gate Tri Club code.  But I assume both are good and
will work, so members can use either one to get the $15 discount.

To Mike's point ... get moving if you plan to do the race!

Hello athletes!

Bike workout from Cupertino Bike Shop! Let's make it a good one!
Focusing on distance this weekend, we will cruise up Foothill and aim
for 90 minutes out and 90 minutes back. This is an endurance ride, so
bring more than one water bottle, some kind of electrolyte and of
course the requisite bike gear. We're aiming for distance and
developing that muscular response to pedal action. Our primary goal
should be efficiency in movement. Smooth, fluid pedaling, straight
tracking.

If we're lucky, Deb Pyle and Dan Sauers (your coaches for the
remainder of the season) will be out and will try and answer questions
you might have regarding future workouts.

I must say I am bummed that I need to step back, this is a fun group
and I know I will be missing out on some cool adventures - Deb and Dan
are two stellar coaches and have a proven track record in developing
kick-a$$ triathlon programs. Dan is a former NTTS coach, and Deb
worked with the San Diego Tri-club new triathlete program. Have fun,
and I hope to see you all out there this Saturday, if nothing more
than to give you one last Tabata warm-up! Muhahaha...

See you this Saturday!

Workout Focus:
     * Safe training
     * NTTS Run
         - Warm-up.
         - 3 to 4 miles of running
     * Stretching

Gear:
     * Mandatory: Running shoes, water, cell phone with emergency contact info
     * Recommended: water, sunscreen, rain gear, gloves.

Location/Time:
     * Cupertino Bike Shop: Look for one of the following vehicles:
blue Jeep or a black Xterra in the back parking llot.
     * Directions - http://tinyurl.com/CBS-NTTS
     * 8:00 am show-up and get gear ready
     * 8:15 pre-workout briefing starts
     * 8:30 we roll

Pacific Masters Swimming just shot me some info regarding an Open Water Swim clinic they will be holding at Lake Del Valle on Sunday July 26th.  This is a great opportunity for new and developing open water swimmers.

PMS will have some of the sports top athletes coaching the clinic, so definitely get out there and take advantage of their expertise if you are looking to learn more about Open Water Swimming.  I've attached their flyer with all the details.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I'm forwarding on an email from Ryan, owner or USA Productions, the Race Director and owner of yesterday's SVODT (formerly SJIT) race as well as last month's MHST (formerly UVAS Triathlon) and the upcoming Catfish Open Water Swims and Folsom International.

I'm putting this on both Discussion and Interactive as I'm guessing there is some constructive discussion that may be sent on.  Please feel free to comment in the discussion mail group.

Thanks,
Mike

----- Forwarded Message ----

Hello Silicon Valley Triathlon Club,

I wanted to thank you all individually for participating in yesterday’s triathlon at Almaden Lake.  Your large participation in the event is incredible and your help at packet pickup is always a pleasure.  My wrong doing as race director is unacceptable and I will somehow make this up to all that were involved in yesterday’s event.   I thought I had the right crew but unfortunately I didn’t and will use due diligence at all races moving forward to make sure I have all the right people managing the course and providing communication.  I value your participation and felt it’s in my best interest to communicate with all local bay area tri clubs about my disorganization yesterday.  This will all be fixed but need to reassure everyone so we can enjoy the future races together.

Again, I apologize for any frustration you may have had with the race yesterday and appreciate the correspondence people are sending.

Best regards,

Just a heads up for the gear sales tomorrow. Will have these available:
* LG gear (bike, tri, sports bra) - M/L out of stock for men's tri
* Headsweats (hat/visor)
* tech-t's
* socks, cycling gloves

The frequency of physical sales will tone down a bit once the web store's open.

I uploaded the current stock of what we have on the web today, so hopefully we can get the store up and running soon... we can make another order soon for the popular sizes that are out of stock, and try to make it for Big Kahuna at least.

Cheers,
Ko

We can't do this at SVODT packet pickup, so we'll just do this at the VTA station parking lot across Coleman Rd., where it doesn't interfere with the SVODT functions. Just pick up your packet at Lake Almaden and swing by for the clothes.

I'll just be chilling, reading a book or something between 1-4 p.m. Please refer to the google map link below, and look for a black Toyota Matrix with a USAT sticker. Let's get as much of these out before the race :)

Hey, I'll go sell some club apparel at the SVODT packet pickup tomorrow, between
1-4 p.m. 3-hour time window should be wide enough.

When: Saturday 20, 1-4 p.m.
Where: SVODT packet pickup at Lake Almaden; hopefully they'll let me set up a
canopy near the pickup. Just look for a guy with ridiculous boxes.
What: I'll try to fit everything in my car, but if everything doesn't fit, I'll
bring at least the new LG apparel, the accessories, and the TECH T's! To
clarify, all the pre-ordered stuff were taken care of. The apparel that I will
bring are all up for grabs!

REGARDING THE WEB SHOP:
I need to do an inventory count of the apparel that I took over - once all that
information is uploaded to the store, we can hopefully open it by next week.

SVTC is slated to have a HUGE turnout at SVODT this weekend!  Thanks to Alex and Ko, hopefully everyone who wanted to get into SVTC clothing for the race is able to.  It's going to be great to see all the SVTC'ers out there!

Don't forget the Pro Challenge this year.  Those who raced this event back in 2000 - 2002 remember having the pro's come out and race in the heat of the day so that we could all watch.  This year they are doing it again.  After the age groupers (us mere mortals) are done, the pro's go off in what should be a great race, so plan to stick around!  And these guys and gals arent just doing it for local bragging rights, they are chasing money and a pay-day, so expect to see some great competition.

SVTC will have a couple of tents at the race venue to be able to relax in the shade with your teamates after your race, so be sure to look for our banner and come hang out.

See you there!
