Hi Skaters,
We are almost a week away from the Napa Valley Inline Marathon. I don't think I
have even seen a more ideal situation for skating on the Silverado Trail!!! The
vineyards are a luscious green. The roadway is smooth asphalt. The weather is
absolutely perfect.
I went to the Napa Redwood Inn in Napa while I was there. Some group there
cancelled, so there are more rooms available and at a discounted rate. A room
with 2 double size beds is $90.00, not the $135.00 normal rate. An extra bed in
the room is #10.00 Also most hotels in the Napa Valley require a two night stay
on the weekends. Everyone with the Napa IM can get the one night stay. You
should ask for Greg and tell them you are with the skating marathon. The phone
number there is 707-257-6111. You can call toll free at 1-877-872-NAPA (6262).
Their website is http://www.napavalleyredwoodinn.com
You can pick your race packets Yountville Park in Yountville. People can
register for the race there as well. This is the site of the after race picnic
and awards ceremony about two miles west of the race start line. We will be
there from 12 noon to 6PM. You can call me at 415-412-9234 anytime. There is a
map on the Napa IM webpage at http://www.cora.org/NapaMaps.htm
Once again many of us are using this opportunity to camp out in Calistoga. We
get to test out our Burning Man gear. It's cheap, it's fun and it's almost a
tradition now. This is at the Napa County Fairgrounds in Calistoga. Take the
Silverado Trail to its' end at Hwy 29. Turn left and go to Fairway Ave. at the
CalMart Store. Take a right at Fairway and follow it to the end and turn
right. The entrance to the campground is on your left.
Our sport may not be what it was a few years back, but I believe this experience
will put stir that unique excitement and passion that we need to reinvigorate
the joy of skating. That is what we are focusing on. The Napa Valley Inline
Marathon represents the only inline marathon on the West Coast. We have
outlived all the ups and downs in the sport and we pledge to continue supporting
skating until the wheels fall off.
Thank you for your support. We are all ready to roll here. See you in
Napa!!!!!
Keep Rollin',
D. Miles Jr.
