Hi Skaters,
Come discover the treasures of San Francisco Bay - on skates!!! It's time for
the second installment of Sunday Streets San Francisco. The next event will
take place on Sunday, May 10, 2009. This time we will close the roads to
traffic along San Francisco's waterfront route in the southeast sector of the
City highlighting the San Francisco Bay Trail, which is celebrating its 20th
Anniversary in May. The street closure route will roll from AT&T Park to the
Bayview Opera House, along the Bay.
The Roller Skating Pod is being presented by C.O.R.A. in conjunction with the
Bayview Merchants Association. We will be located at Galvez Street along the
Third St. route. This is next door to the Bayview Plaza Shopping Center. We will
transform the area into a roller disco scene from Golden Gate Park. There will
be free skate rentals, free skate lessons from 10AM to 2PM. There will be
Rollersoccer Skate Demos every hour. There will be skate dance performances
featuring the "Jai Ho" dance from the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" and a
performance of the "Thriller Dance"
The music for the roller skating pod will be presented by KMEL 106 FM. Also
come check out the KMEL FM106 street team as they will be pumpin' up the beats.
KMEL's Lady Ray will be in the house from 11 AM to 2PM. They are already talking
about it on the radio so come on out and be a part of the skating action.
Thanks to the Al Norman and the Bayview Merchants Association, this is the only
location where there will be barbecue!!!! anywhere on the route. It is being
presented in cooperation with the Lenar Corporation.
We will have a press conference in the Bayview this Thursday, May 7 at 11:00 am.
The location is Super Save Market on 3rd Street at McKinnon. Speakers will
include District 10 Supervisor Sophie Maxwell, a representative from the Mayor's
Office, representatives from the SF MTA, local merchants from the Bayview
Community, for the Bay Trail (ABAG Exec. Director), and a few community leaders.
Remember, everything is FREE!!! We are creating "recreational asphalt" so you
can come play in the street FOR FREE!!! The roads are closed to traffic for
FREE. Bike Rental is FREE. Skate rental is FREE. The stadium will be open for
you to come onto the field and run the bases for FREE!!!
