Hi Skaters,
Danny Daniels is a skater from Texas that is out right now skating on the roads
of America trying to set a Guinness World Record skating from California to
Florida in 69 days. When I first heard of this I was under the impression that
this was a sponsored event. I assumed there was a thought out plan, a crew, a
cause and all the trimmings. I soon got an e-mail from Roger Olsen who has been
helping Danny and his wife Hillary. He sent me a link to their blog
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=13742576 and
Danny's e-mail address and we have been in communication.
I admitted to Roger that I was skeptical about this at first. I've seen it all
in skating and many a skater has come down the pike with grand plans and
gimmicks. They talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. (or maybe skate
the skate) But after reading more about this, I know exactly what it is like to
skate through mountains with cramping muscles on roads with trucks whizzing by
and all that. I know the feeling when the police and people in the towns wave at
you and cheer you on. I'll be doing the same thing again in April from San
Francisco to Los Angeles. http://www.cora.org/SFtoLA2008.htm That's as far as
I need to go to to do what I have to do.
Danny and Hillary are super committed to doing this skate. Their cause is to
inspire others to skate. Things may not be going as planned, but Danny is still
going anyway. Danny is skating and Hillary is the crew. They have been hooking
up with skaters along the way. They have also had to stay in WalMart parking
lots and truck stops to sleep at night. It's the two of them in a Ford Focus.
Danny's writings describes his experience in vivid reality. You can feel the
pain, the cold and the joy as he tells the story.
Bont/Glenn Koshi have supported Danny and his quest with $1100 and products
over $1600 for a total of over $2700. Other skaters or helping with donations.
I sent out a national press release on Danny and the Trans U.S.A. skate.
C.O.R.A. is making a $50.00 cash donation to help him. It represents the
C.O.R.A. Board's first official act as a functioning non-profit corporation.
If you would like to help, you can send a donation to Danny and Hillary Dannels
at www.active.com/donate/transusa Any little bit helps.
Keep Rollin',
