Re: [inline-instruction] 2004 ICP Calendar

I am posting this for Trish Alexander, who is currently unable to post
to this list. Please email her directly at talexander@...
for comments and questions.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the Seattle Fit Camp.
A few particulars I can share which might help everyone. Otherwise,
email me directly with specific questions. Kris is also in the process
of developing the brochures for the Fit Camps.

The Fit Camps are designed to allow out-ot-towners a chance to reside
with locals (saving you some travel costs) and to offer you a chance to
skate the local trails and meet other skaters. I am currently planning
on putting together a Friday Night Skate on June 4th with as many
locals as we can (K2 has agreed to assist us in this adventure) and a
Potluck/Picnic on Saturday, June 5th off skates either at a park or
someone's home, depending on our weather.

The Fitness Inline Training program is designed to build on the skills
you already know and teach and to provide you with on-going training
programs. The FIT Program can take your current class curriculum from
the basic skills and show you how you can turn it into a useful
application of those skills. You can use the base of your current
students to create new programming.

This year I am also adding the Roller Fitness Class I teach as part of
the curriculum you can use. You'll have in your manual a full roller
fitness class which offers both fitness and skill development at the
same time. It's a good blend of a part of the Blade Fitness, but oh so
much more. Trish-bo is a kick! You'll get sufficient handouts to go
back to your area and put on some fun weekly roller fitness classes.
This is another way that you can take those students who took four
lessons from you and offer them on-going classes.

Although this is technically a certification, it has an emphasis less
on taking and passing exams and more on reviewing skills, and then
using what you already know to create fun programming. It's very
interactive and recent graduates have said it was simply FUN. (How many
of you said that about your level ones certification?) You are required
to be a certain skill level, but as long as you have that, then this
course builds on your great skating talents!

[Just to avoid the rush of negative emails about certifications and
fun...it is imperative that you have and learn certain skills for
teaching skating and the ICP has an appropriate amount of requirements
before you can pass your Level One and Two, but this program assumes
you have passed Level One, so our emphasis is less on the certification
and more on utilizing what you already know about teaching and giving
you more ways to teach skating. You will see at the end of the course
why you then might want to get your Level Two!]

The Fit Manual is about 100 pages and provides you with valuable
information on the Exercise Science to allow you to better train
students in the fitness aspects. It gives you training programs for
your students of 8 and 16 week training programs and weekend workshops.
It also provides you with free handouts for your students so they can
also have a guide while learning to skate for distance.

This was just off the cuff, but please let me know if you have other
questions. The Fit Camps will be fun, you'll meet new skaters and we
will try and find a free room for everyone who wants to travel to
Seattle. We're wet, but we're nice and look forward to having you come
meet us. And, we have 36 skating trails and a book which describes them
all, so come for a week!
