Anyone who needs magnetic numbers, let me know. A friend of mine owns
a sign shop in Fishers (T3 Signs) and has some heavy magnet material
that he can put vinyl on and make numbers. He is willing to give us a
heck of a deal -- for 4 total numbers (8" tall, 2 numbers for each
side of the car), and 2 class plates (4" tall, 1 for each side), you
choose the font for the numbers, black numbers on white magnetic
material: $30.
If you want different colors or more numbers, he can do that too for
an extra small charge. He can turn orders around pretty quick too.
Let me know if you are interested. You will be able to see an example
of his work at the first autocross on my car.
Thanks,

Guys, the 2007 Solo Rules are listed for sale now on the national website,
at $30 a pop, plus shipping.
How about buying it from the Indy Region for $30 total, each, and you save
on the shipping costs? You can pick it up at the Indy Regional Solo events.
(Psst - the first one will probably be on 4/1 - no foolin'!)
Please reply to me directly (sccadaub@...) so I can get a tally of
how many to order. Or, reply to this group so we can build a fevered pitch
worth of Barrett-Jackson and horribly clog some Inboxes!
Ordering deadline will be March 1st. We gotta cut it off then so we can
turn in the order and have 'em by 4/1.

Found a site that has several series frequencies available....but it
costs $18 for 12 months for access to all kinds of race series radio
frequencies. http://www.racescanners.com/freq.php

Don,
I'm sorry I do not know about the radio frequencies, but I do have a ticket and
a room reserved in Ormand Beach, about eight miles from the track that I cannot
use. If you are interested please let me know.

The second meeting of the 2007 Indy Region Solo Steering Committee
will be on Thursday, February 1st at 7:00pm at Dookz Sports Grill on
96th St.
We had a good turnout at the last meeting as we discussed the 2007
schedule, hosting special money-making events, creation of a new pax
class, creating a standard course and more. The results of these
discussions will impact the direction of the Solo program in 2007.
If you are interested in taking an active role in the 2007 Solo
Program, I encourage you to attend.
Some agenda items for this meeting:
Solo Schedule (cont'd)
Sites
Hosting the National Tour
Attracting and retaining new competitors (cont'd)
Identifying / filling key positions
Trophy ideas
I hope to see you on the 1st!

My personal opinion is that you have to take the manufacturer's
stated towing capacity with a grain of salt. Yes, the vehicle will
pull the load and the manufacturer's legal department is fairly
confident that the vehicle can do so safely. But the one thing you
rarely see included in light-duty vehicle towing packages is upgraded
brakes. Every vehicle I've towed with, no matter whether it had a
towing package or not, has eventually had brake problems, usually
prematurely warped rotors.

I owned a 2003 Explorer with the factory towing package and your
assessment is correct except for two items.
1. In 2003, the towing package included a limited-slip rear
differential with 3.73 gears instead of 3.42 (I believe I have those
ratios correct). I had some issues with the LSD chattering. My dealer
put in the additive and when that didn't work, they changed the gear
oil completely. When that didn't work, they replaced the final drive
under warranty. By the way, you can tell if a late-model Ford truck
or SUV has an LSD by looking at the two-letter axle code on the
vehicle information sticker on the driver's door jamb. If it starts
with a letter, it's an LSD. If it starts with a number, it's an open
diff. There are web sites out there that explain the axle code in more detail.
2. In 2003, there were two different cast aluminum wheels used on the
Explorer XLT V6. One wheel was only used on Explorers without the
third-row seating and without the towing package. If you had either
option, you got different wheels. I don't know if this difference is
significant, but apparently Ford thought so.
>My Explorer does not have the towing package but my expected towing

>goes a bit above that

You may not need the wiring harness. You should have a four-wire
trailer wiring harness already. Look around behind the bumper.
If you have the 3.42 gears and the V6, I think you will be very
disappointed in the performance of the vehicle while loaded. For that
matter, even with the 3.73, the SOHC 4.0 V6 in the Explorer is
somewhat gutless. It just doesn't have a good torque curve for
pulling heavy loads.
The Explorer is a great SUV. I've owned a '95 and an '03. It's a very
versatile and reliable vehicle for hauling people and "stuff". But I
don't know how crazy I'd be about towing with one.

i stopped by the grissom redevlopment agency today, and was told that
they were signing another contract with the scca for this year, so it
looks like we are ok for this season,, they have the area declared
shovel ready and are getting help through the state to get some more
industry intrested,, and they have had lots of interest in the site
it realy seems sad that one of the premier autocross sites in the
nation might get scooped up by some factory makeing widgets,, but one
of the problem's is that know one localy knows how much it has put peru
on the map, if the Secret Car Club of America wasen't so secret, i
guess someone needs to step and bring autocross to the attention of the
masses,, so i am putting the indy club in charge of getting autocross
made into an OLYMPIC SPORT !!!!!!
Hey guys, I've pulled my Kumho Victoracer V700 tires off of my factory
wheels and think I might sell them. That wheel tire combo didn't fit
over my large rotor brakes.
The tires are the early compound but are still available through Tire
Rack. I'll make someone a good deal on them. They are in great shape
and actually have visible tread left on them. Size is 225/50-16.
Just email my hopkinsj @ hotmail dot com account. I can take pics or
you can come see them in person.
Thanks!
I have a 2005 Ford Explorer. The base towing capacity is 3500 lbs. There
was an available "towing package" option which raised the towing capacity to
7000 lbs. The package, so far as I could tell, consited of three items: a
7 wire electrical harness (rather than the standard 4 wire), a Class III
receiver hitch (instead of the standard Class I/II), and shorter final

My Explorer does not have the towing package but my expected towing needs
are right at that 3500 lbs. Would I be okay replacing the hitch and adding
the additional electrical harness (in case the load goes a bit above that
3500 lbs) or do I really need the lower gearing if I end up with a load in
the 3500-4000 range)?

The first meeting of the 2007 Indy Region Solo Steering Committee
will be on Thursday, January 11th at 7:00pm at Dookz Sports Grill on

group effort to achieve our goals. If you are interested in taking
an active role in the 2007 Solo Program, I encourage you to attend.
Even if you just want to listen, come out and join us. At this first
meeting we will develop the list of issues to be addressed this
season and the mechanisms and timeframes to address them.
To give you an idea of the planning work for 2007, here is a sample
of the of topics we'll be working on before the season begins:
Solo Schedule
Sites
Hosting the National Tour
Specialty events
Standard course layout
Temporary memberships
Budget
Attracting and retaining new competitors
Changes to how we run events
Creation of a "pro" class
Identifying / filling key positions
Trophy ideas
Awards
Etc.
If any of these strike a chord with you please join us and be part of
shaping the program direction.
I hope to see you on the 11th!
Phil Wehman

I'm not planning to do any mods to my Elise in 2007, so I will be in
SS. However, based on last year's results it doesn't look like many
(or any) people are running SS. So my question: is *anybody* running
SS next year, or should I just go ahead and plan to run ASP?
Thanks,
Phil

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I was a hired gun only. Arrive and drive, ya
know.
I let the car owner take care of all that other stuff.
I would never be dumb enough to own a race car and one (or maybe two)
karts.....

Steve, that's very generous.
Now, can we just forget that silly "no mods in 2007"? I've got a few little
additions where you can help split the cost....CAI, exhaust, wheels and
tires. And neat graphics. And a longer trailer. This is gonna be fun!

Ps. You can even ride my pit scooter.

As your co-driver, I will run SS.
