The designer is Jay Wright, who is an engineer with NASA in Houston. Smart
guy. When I was on the Comp Board and we had a question about structural
mechanics, we would sometimes ask Jay for an opinion. Nothing like having a
"rocket scientist" around.
Jay's accident was at a Road Atlanta Runoffs, so it would have to be before
1994. Actually, I'm pretty sure it was 1993. Jay was racing a Mazda MX-3 in
SSB. Coming down the hill into Turn 12, the car went out of control, hit
the tire wall and dirt embankment on the outside of the turn, bounced high
up into the air, and came down on the roof. Various parts of the roll cage
collapsed and the seat back broke.
As a result of Jay's accident, the rules were changed to allow Showroom
Stock cars to have racing seats in place of the stock seat and the rules
were changed in several classes mandating changes to the roll cages.

To Paul and All,
No, we are not having a formal "announced" Novice School this year. We plan
to
offer up as much assistance as anyone would want at the Test & Tune on April
7th
(Saturday). We are working on a different format for the Test & Tune that
should offer a significant amount of runs (at least eight if not more) as
well
as a relaxed atmosphere and opportunity for socializing, ride swapping, and
hopefully some mentoring from some of our more experienced members for any
Novice driver that may want it. Columbus runs a very good school that would
meet the need of any Novice driver wanting more formal and structrured
instruction.
Thanks,

Hi, I've noticed the lack of a solo drivers shool this year. Will
this be added later or what? Thanks, Paul Fox well.
Check back early and often!
Ditto to Matt. Great job!
At least it wasn't a full page photo. Imagine what it will be like when Dave
wins a BIG race...

World's second greatest Solo 2 event (only Topeka beats it).
Just wondered if anybody was planning or thinking about jumping on I-

If so, let me know. Maybe I can put in a good word for you with the

John,
As my esteemed co-chair Steve said quite succinctly, I think both are
important and we need to look at both issues carefully. We want to expand
our market by adding new members to the solo community in our region (sorry,
I just finished reading homework for school so I've got marketing on the
brain). This will increase the revenue for the program and add new blood.
Our favorite class, STS, was originally created as a way to attract new
members.
We also want to work on keeping the current solo people active and probably
more importantly get some of the regulars even more involved so that we A)
have more inputs to create a better series and B) have more people to share
the work.
Assuming we're successful on both points we'll eventually run into the
problem of too many participants, but I don't think that we're there yet. It
would be a nice problem to have though.
Chris
yes.

Asd I ponder topics for the clutch chatter...
Are we intrested in bringing in new members into tho solo program
(some days we seem to have a nice number of cars to allow for 4 or so
runs and we get home at a decent hour of the day) or, do we want to
promote retention and a more active roll of the existing membership?

If anybody has anything they'd like to submit for Clutch Chatter the
doors are wide open! Throughout the year there's almost always
something going on. This time of year SCCAers tend to be finding
ways to keep their garages insulated or praying for a day when it
gets up into the upper 40's. You're probably also pondering plans
for 2001. I'd be glad to have your input, large or small.
Yup, we'll be promoting this forum in Clutch Chatter, too. (It will
be an full of low hanging fruit for a newsletter editor to pluck).
Good to hear you are spending your christmas gifts wisely!
We're firming up the schedule right now and it should be in the next Clutch
Chatter.
More than likely the first event (test & tune) will be first SATURDAY in
April
(the 7th).
See ya,
Steve

Alan, Martin and I are looking forward to the autocross season this
year! I have been buying toys for my new black 91 Prelude. Need the
weather to break so I can start doctoring the car.
Columbus has an event scheduled for Feburary... bring your Hoosier

Thanks John,
Hopefully more members will take advantage of this. Spread the word to
others who might be interested. There will be info about this list in the

Feel free to post schedules and reminders for Indy and other regions
anytime. That's what it's here for...

Steve,
The puppy is fine. Made a mess on the floor, though.
Has everyone sent info about this group out to the SCCA members in their

I'm writing an insert about the egroup, that will appear in the next
