Last year at this time I was in Florida hunting warm weather,
relatives, and autocrosses.
This year we had mid 70's temps at Walesboro airport.. ( near Columbus
IN)
The courses were fun and grippy and and the people very friendly.
There were many new people to get to know.
Next year they will have new paving on the north long sections.
At the last Indy event, I had a rear alxle come loose due to u- bolt
breakage. The custom axle(tubbed) destroyed itself, the bearing
carrier, some suspension links, bent the aluminum shock and collasped
part of the exhaust header; all in about 30 feet. .
I owe a big thanks to all th Indy folks who helped me get the
Roadster loaded.
I fixed it in the next two weeks because I hated to think about it
over the winter. I figured that it was stored for several months until
Spring, then, the great weather report came out I went racing instead.
of gutter cleaning..this was probably a Nov. record turn out for CSCC.
The parts all tested OK, and I feel good about the off season now.
Clemmens Burger (fastest ,man in Solo right now-Nat'l B Mod
Chanmpion)) had his new turbo D Sportsracer at Walesboro for some
testing also; and would you believe it---he broke both rear axles. I
don't know about further damage.
Of interest to this old timer was Lou's race prepared REAL Lotus
Elan (Minature Miata)which he vintage races. He was the fastest of all
of the CARS. I was next. Fastest overall was Maury's formula 500.
While the 64 Corvair Roadster was apart, I replaced the compromise
transalxe ( not best for track or Solo) with an autocross specific one.
It worked, I got to choose between two very close 2nd and 3rd gears.
and every one of the 6 runs was slightly faster.
Ah, let winter come now,
Warren
