WC aftermath:Videocon may dump Dhoni

WC aftermath:Videocon may dump Dhoni

Videocon Industries may have reportedly decided to dump
Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its brand ambassador following his dismal World Cup
show, but Kolkata-based Exide Industries has no such plans.
Exide seems content to give Team's India swashbuckling wicket-keeper-batsman MS
Dhoni the benefit of the doubt and retain him as brand ambassador till at least
November 2007 when Dhoni's two-year contract is scheduled to expire.
"We don't judge anyone by his performance in such a short span. Therefore, there
is no question of Exide sacking Dhoni as brand ambassador just because India
couldn't do well in the World Cup," said Mr S B Ganguly, executive chairman and
CEO, Exide Industries said.
It's a different matter that although Dhoni played in all the three World Cup
fixtures involving India, the flamboyant batsman managed to score merely 29 runs
in three innings. The wicketkeeper batsman, however, bagged five catches behind
the stumps and was involved in two stumpings.
"Exide was the first Indian company to appoint MS Dhoni as its brand ambassador
in November 2005 even before he made it to the regular Indian eleven. That
association is still continuing to our mutual satisfaction," Mr Ganguly said.
The contract between Dhoni and Exide will remain valid till November 2007. The
auto battery manufacturer feels it is still early to comment whether it would
continue with the stylish Dhoni after the expiry of the contract.
