India has never won a series in South Africa. For the first
time India went to South Africa in 1992-93. It was considered as the historical
tour,as South Africa came back into playing cricket after a ban of many years.
India played four tests in that seires. India
lost the test series there by 1-0 and lost the One day series by 5-2 though
Indians were favouries to win it.
Second time India went in 1996/97 and played three test matches in that series.
India was very close on winning
the third test match but rain gods were not in favour of Indian Cricket and play
was abaondoned and match has to be stopped in between. They lost the test series
there by 2-0 and lost in the finals of triseries to South Africa which also
included Zimbabwe. Now its the Indian tour to South Africa in 2006.The outcome
of the coming series looks equal in favour of both. South Africa has the home
advantage and looking at records South Africa seems favourites but experience of
Indian team is a bit more than the South Africa.
India seems to have a little advantage with the experinced world class players
like Tendulkar and Dravid in the side this time. Hope the Indian fans would pray
for it again with the spirit "come on India", also demonstrated by Ganguly.
