Working Student Type Position   Message List

Hi all,

I am hoping someone will be able to help point me in the right
direction. I am coming over to Indiana in January for six months
from England - over here I have a horse who I've produced to UK
Novice level eventing (I think that's your Preliminary level).
Obviously my horse won't be coming too and so I am looking for some
kind of working student position so I can keep riding and have some
training whilst over in the States. I'll be living in Indianapolis
so no accomodation required, and I'll have a car so a reasonable
commute is possible. I won't be expecting to be paid (I'm coming on
a visitor visa), just that in exchange for my hard labour, someone
will give me an hour or so's training a day. I've worked on yards
before in England, but being 29 and a professional ecologist,
clearly it's not what I am doing right now. I know you guys have
something called hunter-jumper which we don't have - I'd be
interested in anything like that so not just event yards.

I would rather be on a yard which can offer me jump training as well
as dressage, but I don't expect any opportunities to compete and I
wouldn't totally rule out a dressage yard. I can do all the usual
yard chores to a high standard (muck out, plait, clip) and I have my
HGV licence too (UK Class C - can drive anything non-articulated). I
can provide photos and videos of me riding my horse, and I'd like
there to be a trial period as I appreciate that taking someone
on 'blind' without seeing them ride or handle horses is a bit of a
risk. Obviously character references can be provided and I can
provide a reference from professional riders if required.

If anyone feels they can help point me in the right direction of
people to contact, or you personally would like some free labour
whilst I am over in Indianapolis, then please do get in touch
(tilly.tilbrook@...), I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, Tilly.
