Hello All,
I was wondering what, if any martial arts insurance, you are using if
you teach a martial art.
I have been training from my home(garage, basement) for the past
several years mostly private lessons with only a few students. These
students signed liability forms and were close friends and/or family.
So, Insurance was really not an issue, with the sucess of my website
and the word of mouth from my students. I am getting much more intrest
and my class sizes are starting to grow.
(i.e. it is time for some form of insurance) It has been a lot of
years since I need martial arts insurance and there are now a lot of
choices.
So I was wondering if any of you had a suggestion of which to use or
not to use..
Thank you in advance for your help.

As of 31st May 2005 we will be holding our Tuesday class at Anston
Park Infant School, we have made this permanent move to help stop
confusion. So now Mondays, Tuesdays & Sundays are all held at the
same venue (making my life simpler).
Starting some time soon will be the weapons class that is probably
going to be straight after the Tuesday class.

I have just deleted all the links that lead no place anymore and the
yahoo groups that have not shown any activity over the last 6 months
or so.
So now the list is a little shorter but if you have a martial arts
website you want to add feel free to do so.

Hi Danny,
Was there a message to go with your post?
Did you see the photo from November 2000 you and your sister look
very young on that one. How is your training going now?

This class is open to students that train regularly and hold the grade
of 7th Kyu (yellow belt) or higher.
Anyone that wants to begin or continue their Nunchaku training will
need to book their place and pay for the class in advance. In the
event of us having a large number of beginners wanting to start
training we will run a separate beginners class. The Nunchaku weapons
class will be held once every month with a grading every 6 months or
so.

Don't forget that we are not holding any classes this coming Monday,
all our other classes are unaffected and will continue as normal.

With it being the last lesson before Easter we are going to have some
competitions with prizes to be won, we will have a power kicking and
punching contest using the Imp-tec pad. We have some other tests of
martial skills planed for Thursday 24th March 05.

Hi James,
Books and video are great training aids but I don't believe you can
really lean a style from scratch by the method you described is what
leads to sub standard instructors that we are always complaining
about.
In the absence of an instructor that can teach you the style you want
to learn why not just add to what you have already got and hold an
open style class? No grades or anything just a chance for you to
teach a little bit of what you know to your regular students, this is
a more honest way to teach and a better way to improve your skills.

Currently I only teach Shotokan Karate, but my dream is to learn, and one
day teach Aikido. This is proving difficult due to the fact that there are
no schools for this in my area. Also I'm pretty skeptical as to the learn
at home methods. I believe that a video is no substitute for training in
the presence of others. But as the hopes of my finding a teacher in my area
fade, this option is starting to look better all the time. Even though you
tape yourself and send it in for tests early on, and show up in person for
the bigger ones, I just don't know if I could honostly feel qualified to
teach after learning like that. Any insight into this would be helpful
also. Thanks for helping Trev.
Respectfully,
James

Hi James,
The design would depend on the art, its not going to be much fun
doing Judo on a hard wood floor and a matted area is not going to
last long if you are training with bladed weapons. So what style do
you teach and what sort of training is going to be practised in you
Dojo is very important.
