For those of you that missed the first Nunchaku course we will be
repeating it next year and for those of you that completed the first
course you can go onto the second part.

NUNCHAKU LEVEL ONE Sundays 2pm – 3:30pm: 16/01/05 – 23/01/05 –
30/01/05 – 06/02/05 – 13/02/05 – 20/02/05

NUNCHAKU LEVEL TWO Tuesdays 7pm – 8:30pm: 18/01/05 – 25/01/05 –
01/02/05 – 15/02/05 – 22/02/05 – 01/03/05

Sorry but theirs no foam or rubber safety Nunchaku allowed on these
courses, the wooden corded hexagonal Nunchaku are included in the
course fee. There are only 12 places on the course so its first come
first served.

I agree that ground fighting is an important aspect of combat that
should not be over looked but you cannot estimate how effective
ground fighting is from watching sporting events. These fights maybe
brutal but you still have rules and restrictions and at its essence
its one on one, sorry to say but the thugs of today have no concept
of a fair fight.

A friend of mine was in a fight, the fight went to the ground and
every time he got on top the other guy's friends dragged him off. So
the morel of this story is stay on your feet if possible and make
your escape ASAP.

I believe you need both stand up fighting skills and ground fighting
skills but I don't think choosing to go to the ground in a street
fight is a very healthy option. That's only my opinion though.

Aloha gang;

I'm sending this link to real fight clips to all the groups I belong to. There's
a bunch of them on this one link.

I received the link to these fight clips from
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freestylefightingfiles/ (I always try to give
credit)

Make sure you have your sound on at least for the Gracie vs Kung-fu master.
There is some foul language in the other clips

This should be a wake up call for those of you who only train standing up and
were told by your instructors

"Just stay off the ground!"

You martial artists who want to assume a fighting stance, block the one punch
the guy throws, then counter-attack with your single devastating reverse punch,
will hopefully get a wake up call.

Out of respect for the moderators, I am giving you the link from my own group in
case the moderator doesn't want to show graphic violence such as this AND to be
even more honest it might get a few more people in my group.

Hi Rick,

To avoid that sort of thing I don't have the messages sent to me via
e-mail, instead I log onto the groups and that way I can pick the
topics I'm interested in without having loads of messages to read and
delete.

This year we have hired the Lyric Theatre for the 11th December, the
students demo will start about 12:30pm and hopefully be finished
before 4pm. The party is going to kick off at 7pm and Santa should
be rolling in around 8pm with some treats for the kids.

The tickets are now on sale (tickets on the door will be more
expensive).

Hi Matt,

So I assume TKD was the staring point and the techniques from other
styles were added to that foundation.

Just a quick question, You are named Karate America and teach TKD?

I remember from my TKD training that there was a lot of restriction
put on us, "No you can't do that technique" was one of the most
annoying comments especially when its in reference to a simple lead
hand jab to the face. If a technique is possible then its well worth
taking it into consideration even if it's not the most effective of
techniques. You never know what some one is going to through at you
in a real fight so being able to recognise what technique they are
preparing to launch at you can give you the advantage.

I'm not putting a downer on TKD as I gained loads from the training
and not all the TKD instructors I trained with were as closed minded
as others. As usual it the person that makes it work in the end not
the style that works.

Trev has just confirmed the training date for the advanced grades at
the Middleton Institute on Barleycroft Lane (Dinnington, Sheffiled).

The class is for 4th Kyu and above and will start at 2pm and finish
at 6pm on the 28th November 04. If you want more information you
need to talk with Trev about it.

One more thing: you will need your sparring equipment so if you need
to lend some let Trev know well in advance so he can bring it for you
on the day.

Hi Matt,

So what style of martial arts did you train in before you started
this new avenue of training? Have you added it to your former style
or have you cut all ties with it?

400 student's sounds like a nightmare you must be holding a lot of

With such a big amount of students you must restrict the number of

Thank you to everyone that helped out with our group's stand at
Anston Parks "Fitness Week" yesterday, you all did a fantastic job
and the Infant School is thankful for our clubs support.

A quick apology to my students for not getting around to doing a news
letter this past couple of months but I've had loads to do. So
here's a quick rundown on what's going on.

The Missing Instructors: Sorry about having to leave you last
Thursday but I'm confident that Andy had everything under control.
D.A.R.T is trying to get funding for an Internet project that will
greatly benefit our community and offer us cheep Broad Band Internet
Access. So that what Bex and I was up to (LoL).

Fitness Week: Anston Park Infant School is spending a week promoting
fitness and we were approached to do a little bit. So tonight we are
going to chose about 4 students from the Junior school to do a
training demo on this coming Wednesday.

Grading: The next coloured belt grading (9th Kyu to 4th Kyu) is
probably going to be at the beginning of November but a date has yet
to be set. We are going to put the blue belt grading on at the end
of November.

T-shirts: Yes we have them at last and are still at the same price as
the last batch, the front print has stayed the same but we have
changed the design on the back.

Xmas Show & Party: The joint event will take place at the Lyric on
the 11th December. We want to involve every student if possible even
the beginners, the show is going to be a Martial Arts Demo and a
chance for your parents, friends and family to see what your training
is all about. At the end of the Demo we will do the years
presentations etc. We want to start the demo by 12:30pm and get
everything finished by 3:30pm at the latest. The party will then
start at 7:30pm and Santa is scheduled to arrive at about 8:30pm for
the kids.
