I have trained with people that have worn different variations of
head guards with face guards and visors, they are not something I
would choose to wear voluntarily as even the clear screen visors tend
to reduce vision. The other thing is that they promote disregard for
on coming face attacks, the risk element has been greatly reduced and
so the wearer becomes unconcerned about been hit in the face. I
don't think I have to explain why that's so dangerous?
I don't think they were originally designed for sparing (thinking
back to the early 90's when Macho introduced the "Red Man"), now if
you are doing a self-defence course then they are a peace of handy
kit for those human punch bags. Combined with body armour, groin +
bladder guard, shines, forearms, boots and hand protection then it is
a very good ideas to have the face protection so the other person can
give it everything they have with the knowledge that they wont be
seriously hurting the brave volunteer in all the padded protection.
Keep kicking Trev
