June 6th, 7th and 8th was the United Kingdom Taikai in Manchester.
Grandmaster Masaki Hatsumi of the bujinkan Dojo was The man we are
all there to see and train with. Sensei was on fine form and the
theme was "juppo sessho"
We studied the Kyoketsu-shoge and the kunai as well as Shoto and
Katana, but this was not a Taikai of techniques, it was a Taikai
of "feeling" Although we studied training tools al the basic forms
and techniques can be done without them. The taijutsu remains almost
the same and a little more distance is used to account for the weapon
in ones hand.
The Taikai provides a chance for those who are training in the
bujinkan to see the grandmaster outside japan and to meet up with old
friends and to make new ones, I was a fine venue at the velodreome
and the food was good (though not as good as the training)
For those of you that missed the Tai Kai, this was the last one in
Europe and the last one ouside Japan is taking place in America later
this year. Sensei has given fifteen years to going around the world
and passing on his knowlwdge, Now if you want to see him and
experience true you will have to go to Japan.
I for one will be making the trip as soon as possible.
