Well unfortunately I will not be joining you gals this
week but I may be giving you a reason to have a party
after all. If all goes well I will hopefully be
moving to New Zealand at the end of October. Very
exciting yet sad. In the meantime I will be riding,
riding, riding! Will see you all soon.

We'll ride out Fern Ridge Bike Path to Greenhill and turn left. Follow
Greenhill/Crow Road out to Territorial. Turn right on Territorial,
right on Central (this is the only hill), right on Petzhold (fun
rollers) back to Crow.
Options for home are to head across Crow to Erickson, right on Spencer
and up Lorane back to town. OR turn right on Crow and just head home
down the bike path.
Days are getting shorter - please be ready to leave Hutch's right at
5:30pm!

I am very distressed that Jackie had to chase back on in the crit on Monday. And
for that matter, that all of those of you who stopped for the girl with the
glasses (the one who got hurt on the back stretch) had to do that.
How would you feel about letting other teams know (say, at the start of future
races) that if there is a crash that race or series leaders are behind, we will
like all racers to observe the custom of sitting up until they get back on. In
other words, we'll agree to do this if other teams agree, too. You know, a kind
of social contract. (Is this too weird? It goes a little further than sitting
up when one of the leaders goes down herself. But that didn't happen Monday.)
How would you feel, also, about asking the race promoters to clarify the
procedures for the people who crash so we know they are being taken care of? I
am not asking this about myself..I fell in full view of a whole lot of people.
I am asking because of the girl with the glasses. She got hurt where there
normally are not officials standing and watching. I think it would make for
better racing if we didn't just feel like we were deserting the ones on the
ground, out of sight. I think it was tremendous that some of you stopped. It's
completely unreasonable, IMHO, that you had to chase back on.

Because it's going to be a HOT one, we decided to wait and get a
concensus about what route to do when we meet at Hutch's. If you
can't make it to Hutch's by 5:30 though - let me know.
Vikki
Kerry,
Why don't you do the crit tonight all the same? You're plenty fast and I bet you
will not have much trouble hanging with the main pack. And if you find you go
can on a break, why not? Just do it, why not?
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I'll keep ya posted. Gee, if ANYONE would race with me after my gymnastics last
night, it's a miracle. I appreciate the vote of confidence.

Thanks anyways Flo. I'm still not sure if I want to

Great! Race training? For some, although I am one of the slower ones
and there seems to be a group that breaks off the back and does a
shorter ride each week - of which I am a prime culprit, as 25 mile
after work spin suits me and my current commitments; others do the full
monty 30-40 miles. And get back home the same time as I do :o)
Other folks - welcome Cindy - I am not the voice of Hutchsgirls by any
stretch!
That Damselfly is too darned hard. Try my favorite, the Terry Men's Fly
- it's longer and flexes more. I talked about it in an earlier
posting...though strangely, it seems someone has deleted a lot of our
postings or they somehow went west...

Cindy,
Cool! Introduce yourself! Your bike! Your choice of powerbar!
Actually, I am interested as to how did you find out about the group?
Welcome anyway. The other gals can tell you about the crits etc that
have been happening.
At Bike Friday we do a noon fast ride (>20 mph) from the shop (3364
W11th) every day, and from top of Friendly St every Friday.
I go sometimes, not always. People here go always.

As we discussed last week, we're going to try a different route this
Wednesday.
We'll go out Pearl to 29th, up bumpy Lorane, out Spencer Creek, left
on Briggs, right on Territorial, right on Central, right on Petzhold,
left on Crow and back to town via the Fern Ridge bike path.
For those looking for a shorter route, you could just stay on Spencer
and take Erickson or Pine Grove back to Crow.
Or you could take Briggs to Terriotrial to Doane (backwards loop from
June ride) or just Briggs to Territorial to Crow or ????? Lot's of
options.
Vikki
Flo, thanks for this! I actually made one of those drawstring backpack bags
myself, in a
triple layer waterproof breathable fabric with wide straps so it does not cut
into your
arms so much. I also made it reversible- it's black outside and fluro orange
inside.
People have been asking me to make them but to make it worth my time I'd have to
charge
$50 at least - $12.99 is a nicer price!
I have just done the Cycle Oregon Weekend - $150 two day ride. Here's a review:
http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/cycleoregonwkd2005
I was trashed after the 90 mile final day, so am slowely building up again. I
did a lunch
ride today, I think I'll join you cats next week.
Ciao bellas!

We've decided to retain last night's ride for the month of June (see
below) Rides leave Hutch's at 5:30pm.
It would also be nice to see more of you out at the Monday Night

See you tomorrow.
By popular demand - the hills are back.
Ride will head south on Pearl/Amazon Parkway; turn right on Hilyard at
30th, left at church after Tugman Park; dead ends at Fox Hollow (turn
right)
Shorter Loop Option climbs up Fox Hollow, left and downhill on MacBeth,
right and climb back up Loraine to town.
Long Loop Option climbs up Fox Hollow, down the backside, right on
Loraine Hwy, right on Loraine back to town.
Note that the Long Loop group MAY NOT wait at the top of Fox Hollow.
I am out of town this week so if you have questions, ask Leah.
Have fun.
Vikki
Weathermen are not predicting sunny weather so we'll play it safe and
not head too far out.
We'll ride out Fern Ridge Bike Path to Greenhill and turn left. Follow
Greenhill/Crow Road out to Territorial. Turn right on Territorial,
right on Central (this is the only hill), right on Petzhold (fun
rollers) back to Crow. Turn left on Crow back to the bike path and
Town.
Those looking to go shorter can head out same direction but turn left
on Erickson (off of Crow), left on Spencer (turns into Pine Grove),
right on Crow and head back to the bike path and town.
Good luck Tuesday hill climbers!
See you tomorrow.
Vikki
The route this week is Dillard/Seavey Loop. We'll ride Pearl Street to
East Amazon, left on Dillard, CLIMB up Dillard (the only hill but we'll
re-group at the top) and fly down Dillard. Options from the bottom are
either turn left (to Seavey Loop) or add a few miles by turning right
and riding the Cloverdale Loop before proceeding to Seavey.
For full route map, see http://www.eugenegears.org/coast_fork.htm
A word about group riding – it's always important to know the route and
be prepared (having spare tubes, pump, cell phone, etc. and of course
know how to change your own tire). Last week we lost a couple of
riders (you know how oblivious women are when they start chatting).
Good news is that Rikki and Erin WERE prepared with appropriate
equipment to change 2 flats, had maps/directions with them and actually
met up with the rest of the group on our way back to town. So everyone
made it home safe and sound.
Good luck to our Hill Climbers tonight!
Vikki
Len and the Hutch's Men's Team have agreed to add some women's jerseys
to the order they are placing this week. The Ladies Hutch's jersey's
will be just like the Men's "normal" short sleeve, 1/2 zip jerseys like
they have now only in a women's cut. If you are interested in pre-
ordering a jersey, I need to know what size by Thursday at noon. If
you need help with sizing, the Louis Garneau website has a sizing chart
in the reference section on the left hand side:
http://www.louisgarneau.com/usa/catalog_section_sub_idx.asp?
catalogue=C51§ion=JS
I will collect money in the next couple of weeks since the funds for
this order come out of the Hutch's Team fund. Hutch's shop will have a
few extra on the shelf, but no guarantee you will get the size you want
if you don't pre-order. If you have anymore questions ask away!
Vikki
(v_hunter_pe@...)
Ride north on the bike path along the west side of the Willamette
River
to Stults entrance, cross River Road, weave thru neighborhoods, rt.
on
Park Avenue, left on Maxwell, right on Prairie Road, left on Irving
Road/Clear Lake, left on Fir Butte, left on Royal, enter Fern Ridge
bike path and ride back to town. Fingers crossed for dry weather -
see
you tomorrow.
Good luck to the hillclimbers tonight!
Vikki
South Loop (same route as the first week in April):
From Hutch's, the group will ride out Pearl Street, turning right on
29th, up bumpy Lorane (the only real hill/it's only just over 1 mile
long and everyone will re-group at the top), descend Lorane, continue
thru the stop onto Spencer Creek, left at Erickson, right on Crow
(which becomes Greenhill), right at the first bike path entrance to
Fern Ridge, follow bike path back to town.
If you need more directions, ask Leah or Andrea at the start.
Have fun - see you next week.
Vikki
As I mentioned to the group last week, I won't be there this
Wednesday - taking some much needed R&R in Napa Valley. I will post
the route Wed. morning and I will volunteer Leah or Andrea as ride
leader.
Last week's route (and the hills) were a bit daunting for some -
sorry. Who can I blame for the bad route selection? Uh, I guess that
was me. But what a gorgeous night it was. The next few weeks we'll
keep things flat to better keep the group together and let everyone
get up to speed. Hopefully everone will be doing some practising (and
hills) on their own though because come June, there'll be no catching
the fastest nor the mountain goats in this group.
Vikki
The route for tonight will be to ride out Fern Ridge Bike Path and turn
left on Crow, Left on Doane, left on Territorial, left on Briggs, right
on Spencer Creek, up Loraine (and down bumpy Loraine) to 28th and back
toward town.
A few hills in there (3) for a change. We will re-group at the top of
the first 2.
Hoorah to the 10 women who showed up AND rode last week in the rain,
hail, and wind!
Just a reminder for everyone (in case you haven't visited the site
recently):
The Wednesday Ride starts back up next Wednesday, April 6th. We
meet at Hutch's Bicycle Shop, ready to roll at 5pm. After May, as the
days get longer, we may bump the starting time back to 5:30 to
accommodate later work schedules.
If you have female friends who have expressed interest in riding with
us, but might have been nervous about keeping up with this group,
this is the time for them to start. For those of us who haven't been
riding or riding little this winter, it will take us all awhile to
get back up to speed. But if they wait until May or June, the odds
of catching up and keeping up with the ride will be much harder.
I thought last year's rides were great - wonderful to see such a large
turnout and I am hoping for an even better one this year.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday.
Chic's Rule!
Vikki
Bea,
Why not start with our noon ride that goes from Bike Friday every week
day?
It's 1 hour, heads out west, but you can take off there ... Ruthy and I
try to do it almost every day.
On Fridays we have a Friendly Friday ride that meets top of Friendly
and swoops down and around back to BF.
I am doing as many of these as possible in preparation for the Haldeman
Desert Camp ...

Hi ladies,
It's time for me to come out of the woodwork! I have tomorrow (wed.
19th) off and if it's as warm as it is today I would love to go
riding. Is anyone up for a ride tomorrow about midday, 2hrs,
moderately easy? Call me if interested, I don't have access to email
at home. Good job to all of you winter riders!

Hi All,
I hope everyone is having a good week. I can't make the regular ride on
Saturday, is there anyone who would want to join me for a early ride on
Saturday? I need to be back to my house in south Eugene by 10am, so I think
maybe I'll want to start at 7:30 or 8am.
Hope the rest of you get better weather for the regular Saturday ride than
we did last week! Have fun!
Thanks, Liz
