Just a reminder for everyone (in case you haven't visited the site
recently):

The Wednesday Ride starts back up next Wednesday, April 6th. We
meet at Hutch's Bicycle Shop, ready to roll at 5pm. After May, as the
days get longer, we may bump the starting time back to 5:30 to
accommodate later work schedules.

If you have female friends who have expressed interest in riding with
us, but might have been nervous about keeping up with this group,
this is the time for them to start. For those of us who haven't been
riding or riding little this winter, it will take us all awhile to
get back up to speed. But if they wait until May or June, the odds
of catching up and keeping up with the ride will be much harder.

I thought last year's rides were great - wonderful to see such a large
turnout and I am hoping for an even better one this year.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday.
Chic's Rule!

Bea,
Why not start with our noon ride that goes from Bike Friday every week
day?
It's 1 hour, heads out west, but you can take off there ... Ruthy and I
try to do it almost every day.
On Fridays we have a Friendly Friday ride that meets top of Friendly
and swoops down and around back to BF.
I am doing as many of these as possible in preparation for the Haldeman
Desert Camp ...

Hi ladies,
It's time for me to come out of the woodwork! I have tomorrow (wed.
19th) off and if it's as warm as it is today I would love to go
riding. Is anyone up for a ride tomorrow about midday, 2hrs,
moderately easy? Call me if interested, I don't have access to email
at home. Good job to all of you winter riders!
Bea

Hi All,

I hope everyone is having a good week. I can't make the regular ride on
Saturday, is there anyone who would want to join me for a early ride on
Saturday? I need to be back to my house in south Eugene by 10am, so I think
maybe I'll want to start at 7:30 or 8am.

Hope the rest of you get better weather for the regular Saturday ride than
we did last week! Have fun!

Thanks, Liz

Thanks to all who showed up last night and provided input.
We've decided to establish weekend rides for the winter as follows:

Rides meet Saturday and Sunday at Campbell Senior Center parking lot
(corner of 2nd and High Streets) at 9:30am (starting this weekend)
Rides will be probably be 2-3 hours long in duration at a moderate
tempo
Rainy rides require full rear fenders (please) and Armadillo tires
are recommended
Waiting for re-grouping or mechanical problems is at the discretion
of the group, but not likely in cold and/or rainy weather so don't
count on it. Be prepared, know the route, bring supplies (spare
tires, cell phone, food, etc.)

Last night was fun - gathering socially OFF the bikes. We should
plan another evening soon. I am also looking forward to continuing
to ride with the ladies thru the winter season - so much easier than
trying to talk yourself into riding in the rain by yourself!

See you this weekend.

Hey gals,
I am catching a plane tonight for my coast to coast book tour - back
Oct 10. When do you stop riding for winter - or do you?
Also, Hanz Scholz (BF designer) said he'd love to come on the ride even
just once with the HutchsGirls. I said I'd ask. What do you think?
Don't answer this - I'll create a poll you can respond to. Stay tuned...

Such a great day to ride ... and I've managed to hurt my neck!
I can hardly turn it to the right.
I better rest and eat pizza instead :o)
Hope to see some of you at my little Cuba send-off on Monday.

Hola Eugene friends,

I am about to take off in a 6-week book tour (picture JK Rowlins
9,999th removed - that's me).
The itinerary: http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/handsomestmanincuba
I want to invite you to a mini-sendoff potluck on Monday Aug 30. (My
42nd birthday is also on Sep 3 - I'll be on the road! Wah.)

DATE: Monday Sep 30
TIME: 6:00 p.m. After workish. Sun sets around 8 so let's be early.
WHAT: Potluck and maybe a book reading by me if you can stand it.
WHERE: OK... two options:
a) If it's SUNNY AND DRY, meet at the tables at the base of Skinners
Butte, opposite the river, just WEST of that strange concrete whale
with the eyes poked out and his skeleton removed (see pic attached).
Idyllic sound of a rushing stream which is actually the sound of the
stream of rushing cars, but never mind.
b) If it's DAMP, come to where I live, 2239 Hawkins Lane (off 18th,
past the sign on left that says 'Woodtique', it's the condo opposite
the junction of Hawkins and Park Hills Road). You'll be subjected to
Buena Vista Social Club and the pirated Salsa CD I got in Mexico, which
will insidiously morph into my favorite electronic intelligent dance
music from downunder, plus a rolling slideshow of my Cuba images. If
the rain clears we can see something truly unique in the west end of
this town... a 20 minute walk up an idyliic path beside a babbling
brook between condos... culminating in a wilderness at the top. We
could even eat our grub up there. This is a rare phenomenon in the
concrete cul-de-sacs at the end of suburbia!
BRING: A bit of food to share and utensils to eat it with. I'll make a
big vat of CONGRIS, that is, Cuban rice and beans, which is exactly
what Cubans eat morning, noon and night.
In any case, please RSVP 686-8257 (h), 687-0487 (w) or email ... to let
me know how many beans to count out, and to confirm where we are, if
not clear.
I'll be between work, home and REI that day. I fly out Wed Sep 1,
return Oct 10.
I might do a proper slideshow/book reading when I get back.
Venga mi amor! (as those cheeky muchachos say in Cuba).

To be removed from my list of Eugene buddies reply 'nein danke'

Hey gals,
OK, so on Wed I suddenly got an attack if low blood sugar, and I
stopped to smell (and eat) the blackberries.
Yes, I was a bad influence on the newest member Ling, I know!
Thanks for waiting at the end of McKenzie, I feel suitably guilty -
shoulda eaten more earlier.
If ever you see me stop and do anything else apart from changing a
tire or having an attack of PMS please don't feel obliged to wait.
NOT ONLY THAT, we stopped at the Marcola store and chugged down SoBe
and ate those foul French Onion Sunchips.
We saw Bea and Susie go by some time later... like Groundhog Day.
So enough apologies. I want to know what is in your drink bottles.
Gatorade? Your own formula? Emergen-C?
And does that yellow plastic pot scrubber in Susie's handlebar martini
make her go faster?
These are the answers that will be revealed soon....

Hi,
Well, you're all in the Hutchsgirls Yahoo group now. To take a look at

You can post a message to the group and everyone gets it by sending

YOu can also go to that link above and edit your email preferences. at

Vicki, you can go in and edit the front page description to whatever

Anyone want to go get an iced coffee afterwards? Post your yes here! I
recommend Odwalla Cranberry Quencher. Awesome after a ride. I'll be
heading off on my East and West coast Book Tour Sep 1- Oct 10 so I
won't see you after August - Vicki, when do the rides stop or do they
never? C'mon, a bit of rain doesn't hurt.
Last week we all went in separate directions, Ruthy and I went up
Gimpl Hill and stopped to eat the fantastic juicy big BLACKBERRIES up
there. Dedicated, aren't we?

Hi gals,

Just to let you know we've got about 6 who've joined the Hutchsfirls
message board. It's neat - encourage the others. Someone take a photo
so we can put it up on the Group webpage. Also, has anyone got Vicki's
email address?

This Wed I am going to a lecture on Oil & War at the UofO - see below
for details, so won't make it this week. Let's plan to have a cold
chai latte after one of the rides soon. Don't let this Aussie believe
that Americans really are too busy - this is Eugene and the sun don't
shine for long! I went to Allan Bros and drank a whole lotta things
last week. You might have a guest appearance by a fellow Aussie, Sandra.

I found the Cherry Superquencher by Odwalla EXCELLENT. There's an
article about girly and not-so-girly drinks here:

http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/ultramentor/drinks.html

See you soon,
Lynette

Heads up for a worthwhile event:
Wed July 21, 7-10pm, "Oil & War: Fighting to Feed Our Addiction" FREE
UofO Lillis Business Center, Room 182
A lecture followed by a showing of a brilliant new documentary "End of
Suburbia" - if you hate stripmalls and the cul-de-sac suburbia caused
by the rampant automobile you'll love this movie. I saw it and it's
great - I am even missing the Hutch's Women's Wednesday ride for this.
Highly recommended.
Lynette
