Hola Eugene friends,

I am about to take off in a 6-week book tour (picture JK Rowlins
9,999th removed - that's me).
The itinerary: http://www.bikefriday.com/bf/handsomestmanincuba
I want to invite you to a mini-sendoff potluck on Monday Aug 30. (My
42nd birthday is also on Sep 3 - I'll be on the road! Wah.)

DATE: Monday Sep 30
TIME: 6:00 p.m. After workish. Sun sets around 8 so let's be early.
WHAT: Potluck and maybe a book reading by me if you can stand it.
WHERE: OK... two options:
a) If it's SUNNY AND DRY, meet at the tables at the base of Skinners
Butte, opposite the river, just WEST of that strange concrete whale
with the eyes poked out and his skeleton removed (see pic attached).
Idyllic sound of a rushing stream which is actually the sound of the
stream of rushing cars, but never mind.

b) If it's DAMP, come to where I live, 2239 Hawkins Lane (off 18th,
past the sign on left that says 'Woodtique', it's the condo opposite
the junction of Hawkins and Park Hills Road). You'll be subjected to
Buena Vista Social Club and the pirated Salsa CD I got in Mexico, which
will insidiously morph into my favorite electronic intelligent dance
music from downunder, plus a rolling slideshow of my Cuba images. If
the rain clears we can see something truly unique in the west end of
this town... a 20 minute walk up an idyliic path beside a babbling
brook between condos... culminating in a wilderness at the top. We
could even eat our grub up there. This is a rare phenomenon in the
concrete cul-de-sacs at the end of suburbia!
BRING: A bit of food to share and utensils to eat it with. I'll make a
big vat of CONGRIS, that is, Cuban rice and beans, which is exactly
what Cubans eat morning, noon and night.
In any case, please RSVP 686-8257 (h), 687-0487 (w) or email ... to let
me know how many beans to count out, and to confirm where we are, if
not clear.
I'll be between work, home and REI that day. I fly out Wed Sep 1,
return Oct 10.
I might do a proper slideshow/book reading when I get back.
Venga mi amor! (as those cheeky muchachos say in Cuba).

To be removed from my list of Eugene buddies reply 'nein danke'
