Don't be surprised to see a Chipper / Andruw Jones reunion next
season. How you ask? Although the braves announced today they will be
cutting ties with longtime outfielder Andruw Jones there is a good
possibility he will still play with friend Chipper Jones next season.
Where you may ask, Houston. New Houston GM Ed Wade has made it a
point that he will add a bang to the lineup at the right price.
Andruw Jones would fit in very nicely in Center, and that would allow
new manager Cecil Cooper to slide rookie phenom Hunter Pence to
Right, a more natural position. Now you may also ask, what does this
have to do with Chipper Jones? Chipper has asked to sit down with
members of the Braves front office to discuss the direction of the
team. If he hears that it will be a rebuilding process for the next 3
to 5 years then he will asked to be moved. Jones confirmed recently
that there are only 2 teams he would finish his career with, the
Braves and the Houston Astros. Jones owns a ranch on 35 acres of land
about 20 miles outside of Houston and that is where he has been
spending all of his time away form the baseball field, hunting and
fishing. In fact, both of his parents have called the ranch home
since 2004. With the losses of Craig Biggio, Jason Jennings, Morgan
Ensberg and potentially Brad Ausmus, the Astros will have a good
amount of money to spend on the open market. Where there is smoke
there's fire, and don't be surprised if Andruw and Chipper are having
a bonfire in Houston next April... Jason Norton AJC
