Re: [HoustonBrandBaseball] Strange All-Star Selection

For starters, I like to question the sanity of Tony Larussa whenever
I can, but Brian Fuentes was voted in on the players vote, not
managerial choice. I think he is deserving of the vote, because as I
have said before, all players tend to have a bad day or two (or a
week in Brian's case) and that holds true for him. He was dominate
in 10 of 11 weeks of the season, and has a higher prestige the fact
he is a dominate lefty reliever. The all star game is not supposed
to be a popularity contest, although it is most of the time, but it
should be whoever is having a fantastic season, and with the
exception of that roadtrip from hell for the Roxs he was having one
of the better seasons.
You may continue to contemplate the Brian Fuentes selection, I am
still stuck on the Carlos Guillen over Orlando Cabrera pick by
Leyland....

did LaRussa come up with that call?? Is he trying to lose the game??
> Don't get me wrong, I like Fuentes and he was on several of my
fantasy teams (which he and Embree proceeded to destroy my ERA of
last week). Nevertheless, he is clearly struggling right now and
there are closer and starters in the NL that are much more deserving
of an all-star game appearance that he is.??For example, both Oswalt
and Webb are in the last position available?ballot.? It is a great
crime?because in my opinion both of them deserve to be in the All-
Star game. If all else fails though, David Weathers, has done a
great job as closer for Cincinatti and has an WHIP of .97 and an ERA
below 3.00 last I checked. He is certainly more deserving of an All-
Star appearance than Fuentes.
